Just got my gasket kits today for my rebuilt and I have 2 headgasket on hand... the MLS that came with the FEL-PRO gasket set and the cometic gasket. Made a search for cometic but barely 5 results...

First the cometic one is 88.5mm part: C5498-040. Ive seen that have a 87.5mm also... what it the difference ? 88.5mm is for bored engine ? I will be 0.020 after rebuilt. Between the fel-pro and cometic, felpro has 2 metal layer comitic has 3! Is it better to use the cometic ? Ill run about 15psi of boost!

they are all MLS, or should be by now. If they arnt, its old stock.

Felpro is 2-layer
Cometic is 3-layer
Mitsu OEM is now 4-layer

The stock headgaskets on our cars sucked. So Mitsubishi revised them.

Cometic is just fine as a HG, many people use them. Getting ARP head studs is more important than what headgasket you use.

Im using ARP Head Studs. Just want to know if its safe to take the guess and use the cometic... or its a lot better to buy the stock oem mitsu. Also with 88.5mm for the headgasket, what does it mean ?

It's safe to use the Cometic with ARP studs.

88.5 mm is the overbore size, aka 3.484" or .040" oversize.
87.5 mm is stock bore, aka 3.444" or "std".

If you're going .020" over, grab the 88mm or 88.5mm one.

Ok since I already got the 88.5mm and Ill be bored 0.020 ill use this one. .5mm should not hurt I think.
