Hi guys, i have a treadstone turbokit i live in ks and we dont have any emmissions tests here so when get my motor biuld done i was thinking of just putting a turndown on my downpipe. i am kinda wondering how loud this will be and if it will cause any problems besides a no cat cel and the noise. i would put a bung on the turndown for the sensor just so there is a place to put it.

I'm still soaking up information on turbo setups, but wouldn't that slow your spool since there's very little backpressure?

Soak up more.

It will be very loud.

The less back pressure on a turbo setup, the better. The advantage to having SOME piping after the turbo is the scavenging effect it creates. It basicly causes a vacuum which sort of helps increase the velocity of the air going through the system.

Running an open header is crazzzy loud on our cars.

I am running the 3" McCord powerplate on my exhaust and its a great mod.

I would never run an open header or downpipe on our cars if it is more than a track car only. The noise alone is annoying and sounds like shite. I can open the power plate whenever I am at the track or I need some extra power and can drive the car normally every other day.

I currently am right now because I just got my turbo back on my new car. It is extremely loud sounding when cruising and sounds like a semi when going through the gears because of all the spooling noise haha. I would recommend just connecting it to the exhaust if you have the resources. I plan on bringing it in to a shop when I have time to weld a flange on my piping so I can connect it to my downpipe though. I did it before and it only costed $35 to do it. Go to an exhaust/muffler only shop to get the best prices.

yeah i had considerd putting a cut out in i just wanted some oppinions and seems everybody thinks its a bad idea so the cut out is probably what i will do. i kinda like the idea of a boost activated one i had never seen that before cool.

i don't think thats boost activated, lol. just a manually turning the plate open.

The APTturbo.com unit is boost activated with a wastegate. I have been holding out for that to come back onto the market for 4 months now but they are having difficulties getting the machine work done or something.

It's going to be rediculously loud. Even though you don't have emissions in KS, isn't there some type of noise ordinance?

yeah there is, its 98db is the limit but had 3 12s that put out 145db and i was never even told to turn it down plus most cops here will let you off if you are polite to them so im not worried about it, but i sold all my stereo equiptment so i could make my car "fast" shooting for 13.0 quarter

The cops in the great state of OK will pull you over for as much as tire noise. this state sucks. but I live in a small town and the cops here let me get away with alot now that I've met them so many times. like twice a week at least, for about a year.

Wow that's pretty cool. I've been wondering about a downpipe with an electric cutout for the Evo so I can keep stock exhaust and keep the car quiet. The only problem I've had explained to me is if I do that and have the car flashed with cutout open then I might run into issues when running the car with the cutout closed with the flash. Something like this may very well be the answer to what I've been looking for. Thanks for the link.
