99209, which turbo manifold?OBX isnt good enough Posted by bigrob3232, Feb-17-07 03:10 AM
Okay apparently I've gone with the wrong manifold(OBX equal length)...like someone else has done as well...so what would you suggest be a better solution?

Treadstone

If you want simple, reliable, proven results just get a log style on ebay of Hahn,Star or even Treadstone like TOTAL just suggested. If you still want the equal length setup.....do some searching on here and DSMtuners. I know for a fact that there are a few guys around that make them and do a darn good job at it. Expect to pay a pretty penny for them though.

do you know of anyone that makes good equal length manifold? reading and seeng pictures is totally different from experiencing them in person

Why are you so hung up on an equal length manifold? FOr the amount power your car is going to make you won't have any problem out flowing the HRC or Treadstone.

A good equal length manifold will cost you $1200-1500 and be from a proven shop like Turbonetics, HRC, or ATP, which means one will never exist as a standard stock item for such an overkill specialty application as our cars.

I know the amount of power I'm going to be making isnt going to be much, I just wanted the equal length for future when I do make more power and also my eclipse is more of a show car right now then race so I thought that an equal length manifold would look awesome as far as show quality goes...and still leaves me room for future power if needed.

If you're serious about a tubular manifold, then pm Mike, eclipse982nrRST. Hey just made one he sold or is selling and I think said he would make more if anyone was interested

I 'm having my exhaust guy make me one using the design from the OBX but modfied to better quality

why use OBX as a template? why not look at stuff from Forced Performance, Magnus, HKS, or ATP, and use them as a design template? at least they did the research for you and have proven designs. if your gonna copy somthing why not copy a $1500 manifold?
hell if you want why not get an EVO manifold (one that points to the drivers side, not the generic 4g design) and lop off the manifold flange and weld on a 420a plate?

The reason I dont use any other brands becuase I dont have any other brand to compare it to. I cant very well give a picture of it to him and say make this. I have to have something to go by. I'm just using the OBX to show what NOT to do. but use the idea in mind.

:twitch Why you would go through all the trouble to buy pusher fans, cut your bumper up, redo your radiator system, and re-route the EGR and coolant systems just to have something that looks arguably nice? Personally I think equal length manifolds look ugly as hell but when done right with a 600+hp turbo they're acceptable just because they're functional.
Anyways the 1500 lbs of bondo, fiberglass, speaker boxes, dynamat, and chrome accents on a show car will ruin any potential "power" you might have gained.

99326, RE: which turbo manifold?OBX isnt good enough Posted by bigrob3232, Mar-06-07 02:18 PM
first I planned on getting pusher fans anyway,2nd why would you need to cut your front bumper?, 3rd whats wrong with the radiator I have, 4th what EGR if its blocked off anyway, 5th I have no bondo in my car, I have fiberglass fenders and a fiberglass front bumper with CF hood yes, but I'm pretty sure its alot lighter then the stock crap, 6th how big of a difference is dynamat really gonna make? 7th theres no chrome nor will there ever be chrome. although I have done some chrome powder coating but thats about 1.5 ounzes at the most. how big of difference does that make like .000000001 sec out of the quarter? besides I'm not really worried about going fast or be the "fastest" at anything as long as my car looks nice to me and I'm happy with it. I've already been through the go fast thing anytime I feel like getting a ticket for speeding/racing I'll jump in the stang. TRy not to hurt yourselves tryng to think of why everything I'm doing is "wrong" in your terms...if you want the fastest 2gnt...or fast period biuld it...more power to you.

Show me where anyone said you were "wrong" as you "quote".
You're not wrong, you're just going to waste a lot of money for looks only, and that's the entire point of building a show car. If anything, you're doing it "right".
Don't worry, we won't hurt ourselves, the only thing we tend to hurt is Mustang owners' egos.

I hate to butt into the Cat fight here, but I disagree with you Dawg. Sorry.
I have a lot of money and time into my car to make it very pleasing to the eye for me, and it has show car quality to win shows, but not once did I go to any shows last year and register. I build my car the way I want it and the way I want it to look.
I have added a fglass widebody kit, and whatever else, but that does not make my car much slower. I bet not even 1/2 second slower. I also have a full fglass interior. As MOST of you guys think that adding fglass to our cars makes it heavier, your wrong most of the time. Fglass weighs A LOT less then stock parts, such as bumpers, hoods, dash boards, interior panels, etc etc. Keep in mind that just because its fiberglass doesnt mean theres body filler caked on top. The only time I add more weight to something is when it needs to be beefier, I.E. my speaker box.
Anyway, I am not trying to get on anyones bad sides here, I am just stating my opinion as I am entitled to one.
Also, I dont see how you think tubular manifold are ugly. I would take a tuby manifold over any other Star, Hahn or Treadstone manifold.
Like I said, this all came from the 2 cents out of my sweat pants :)

I agree with eclipse982nrRST.... but dawg, you arent smashing my ego. can you honestly tell me you dont like old muscle cars?...granted mine is a ford but I love it. and i'm not wasting anymore money then half of these guys are. if anything I'm spending less. for example my manifold....is free...i'm good friends with my exhaust guy he hooks me up I hook him up. the only thing he's charging me for is the downpipe back.no labor just supplies. and the fiberglass work only cost me around $100 becuase it was all done in house. the most expensive thing I have on my car as far as parts is my hood(VIS g speed). When you can do it yourself its going to be alot cheaper and you know/trust how much its going to hold up. you cant rely on someones else work if you can do it yourself. and I always say the more people you know the better simply because theres always going to be somebody that can do what you cant. if you know them well enough they may hook you up. but in any case I appreciate all of your comments whether they be negative or positive.
