9895, Bad luck again
Posted by Stan2gnt, Nov-20-01 09:41 AM
No sooner than I get 2 miles from the tranmission shop for a simple clutch job does my shit start acting up. 1rst they took 4 days to do a one day job and kept making excuses for why it wasn't on time and wrote some shit about a possible exhaust leak which I know I dont and never have had. Leads me to believe they fucked it up. Anyway I leave there and everything is fine then I notice what does sound like an exhaust leak so I listen and notice its only noticeable when I let off the gas both with clutch engaged or disengaged). So I'm on the highway letting off and on the gas to make sure (the BOV only seem to make it worse). Now I notice when I let off the gas the tach is jumping up and down all over the place (but the engine is not bucking, its still smooth. AFC tach is jumping with the stock one).I decide to pull off the highway and open the hood. Cant find anything unsual but the noise is louder and now sounds worst and no longer like an exhaust leak but like engine noise and up top. Anyway I drive home and on the way I figure if its the engine what the hell. The tach is no longer jumping around. I boost up to 10psi with no problems, never any smoke the whole time but still this noise (which now sounds like bearings gone bad, not the tapping but well just bad). I go home and check the oil and spark plugs. there all there and in one piece. I look at the timing belt and its still there and on also. I have no idea what the hell just happened. All I know is I went in to get a clutch job and 5 days and 2 miles later the car is fucked up and I cant tell what it is. If its fucked up I'm stripping it and selling everything, taking the cash and buying something NEW or with warranty. Dont know what I'll do with the car though. Maybe do a Ray or just get rid of it too. I'm sure the tranny shop will deny any wrong doing (and I'm not even sure they did anything wrong) so I'll just have to wait and see.
9896, sorry to hear that Stan

You seem to have bad luck with your ride. I would drain the tranny fluid and check it out. Then refill with BG or Redline. Let us know what you find out....good luck

Man, that sucks, Stan. I hope you figure out what's wrong with the car. I know how frustrating (seems never-ending sometimes) it can be sometimes, but you've come a long way. Hang in there man!

are you sure they didnt take your car out for a crazy spin (ferris buller's day off kind of thing??) and broke something in the way? Hows your mileage? did it change at all?? i'd figure if you get a clutch job, there should be no more than 10 miles added to your odometer...

Might be the clutch/flywheel. started it today and when I depress the clutch the noise is alot worse and seems to be coming from the tanny area (although it really seems to be coming from everywhere. If its just the engine it shouldn't make a difference when I press in the clutch. I will find out tuesday. I may take the car back to normal aspiration just so I can use the turbo money as the down payment for a 2002 GTI 1.8T. That way I can have turbo and 2GNT. Either way it makes no sense to get rid of the car completely. I'm really at the point of deciding wether I should just get a hooptie or make my car the hooptie and get something nice.

Can you hear where the noise is coming from? Might be worth it to get one of those mechanic stethescopes to figure out if you can pinpoint the noise. Might be a catchy clutch that's not disengaging or a bad throwout bearing (as the result of the mechanic's screwing with it?).

I'd always attribute a new condition to wherever I took the car to. Scream bloody murder till they fix it. (usually works) Just blame EVERYTHING on them!

I'm probably one of the longest turbocharged here.. I have problems left and right with shiznit I can't even figure out sometimes. I just don't announce it because sometimes it's so discouraging.. I don't even wanna think about it. Just glad I have a daily driver.. fun ass car to drive too.. Let me know what you're gonna do Stan - the guitar man.
Peace.

I have had problems I do not talk about as well. I have fixed all my gremlins and the car runs like a champ. This is the life of modifying a car. I say it is your tb as well. Mine chattered forever. It will still work even with chatter. This is a fault of the installer and they should cover it for you. This is also why it is better to do things yourself ;)

Trade a Talon for a Jetta? A curve for a square? :(

Funny you mention, one of the excuses for it being late was they broke a TO bearing and had to wait another day to get a new one. I will have my "normal" mechanic check it. As for doing it myself, tranny removal is beyond my scope. If professionals fuck it up you know I'll fuck it up or never finish.

Jetta cant do it. but I've narrowed it down to used A4 1.8T Quatro (turbo AWD) or 2000 GTI 1.8T or new 2002 GTI 1.8T (might as well pay a few more bucks for the 30hp extra on 2002s and a full warranty).

I just need to wait until my head clears cause right now I have all kind of sh*t running through it as for what to do. You guys just reminded me nows a good time to get fucked up. Back later after I liquor up. I dont really get depressed or overly worried over breakage, its the when and why it happened that bothering me (read pay my hard earned money to be in worse shape. I could have left the other shit in and be driving now).

Lastly I never said anything about trade. Thats the last thing I'd do. I will get something in addition to, I just may have to go back to NA so I can use the turbo money. So glad this POS is payed for.

see thats weird, stan, cause I got the same thing on my car rite now. you depress clutch, noise gets louder. press in clutch, noise is quieter. Mine still drives ok, just that stupid noise. Good luck man, and lemme know too! ;-)
