98612, Turbo to nitrious Posted by xlr82x, Dec-20-06 10:18 AM
Ok so I have done the turbo thing and got tired of it. Now I am going to do the Nitrious thing and I was wondering what mods if any you guys would suggest for the engine? I was thinking about maybe a new cam but not sure right now. I am pretty sure that I am going to run a 150-175 shot in dual stage.

Go for it, be sure to tape its maiden voyage for us. 175 shot should make for a yard sale of internals on the ground if you ask me. You are going to just upgrade one cam?

Indeed, please video tape that for me :)
And question for you, how do you get sick of the 'turbo thing' ?
You must not have been running too much boost :wary

I will have to tape that run cause I think it will be interesting. I got sick of the turbo thing, because everyone around here was doing it and people started taking my ideas and producing them faster than I could. So I decided to talk about the turbo thing and take a whole nother route like nitrious. Now that I think about it, I wonder what some high compression pistions and new rods would do under that kind of load. I will keep you posted and get that video in as soon as I install it.

Search for posts by YellowRS, he was running a 200 shot back in the day, can't remember how it worked out for him though.

ok, thanks for the heads up.

im sure way more ppl have done nitrous then do a turbo.. and if you seach you will find out exactly what hi-comp pistons wil do, its all been done b4 just search, but i kinda wanna see this yard sale of internals.. hahaha
bottom line, i was going to do nitrous, and it will end up costing you way more then what you could have A: put a turbo sys together and 2: upgrade the engine and turbo sys to max sweet power.. after a few tank fills the cost will = a turbo setup, especailly if ur going to get hi-comp pistons... so if u cant hang with every one else upgrades b/c of $$ then idk what to tell you other then nitrous is prolly not the awncer, unless you just really going for th enice look of the bottle in the trunk. jus my .02 since i tried to go down that road..

I appreciate the advice. I have more money than most people around here, I am just tired of talking about my ideas and turning around a week or two later to see them on someone elses car. But i guess the easy solution would be not to talk about them anymore. I am bascially looking for something new and wanted to broaden my horizons, plus I can give the site a sweet video of what BANME!s shouldn't do to their cars. It can be a learning experience for all.

How about going NA maybe with a ITB set-up on MSnS? THAT sounds like fun and it definitely is different!

Why not dual charger's? That's different

If you're going to put a 175 shot on your car, I strongly suggested forged botom end, and maybe rebuild the head with some stainless parts. I have read that the metal composition of the head parts doesn't take kindly to the kind of heat that can produce. Although, I guess if you've already done the "turbo thing" then you should be alright. If this is a stock block I wouldn't puch much more than 75 shot, and make sure it's a wet kit if you have anything but a 95. as has been stated before (and I'm sure I'm just repeating what you've already searched and found) 96+ has no fpr. I've got a 75 shot wet kit on the car right now. Let me know if you have any questions about setting it up. It's pretty self explainatory though.

Sorry to tell you, but they all have fpr's. One fuel system it is on the end of the fuel rail, and the other it is in the back, right near the fuel filter. How exactly would the car would without a fuel pressure regulator?
|
98675, RE: Turbo to nitrious Posted by Graph-X, Dec-23-06 12:40 PM
My bad... yes it has a fpr. quoted from Baxsom some time ago...
"you cannot install a dry kit because of the way the fuel pressure regulator works.
There is no way to increase the fuel pressure on a 96+."
I knew there was something about the 96+ fuel system that would not allow a dry kit, for whatever reason I thought it was that there was no fpr. I'm a dee-dee-dee.

Building a SAFE nitrous kit is a very stressful and tedious task, especially with a 150 or 175 shot. As before mentioned, you need to make it a wet kit, hands down the best method. Also, do not forget that at a 175 shot, you may have about 3-5 full throttle quarter mile passes before it loses its kick and needs to be refilled, and nitrous is not a cheap entity.
Another side note, it may be wise to install a few switches for a nitrous system. A wide open throttle switch and a system arm switch at least. On Hahn RaceCraft's Eclipse, we had 3 switches: A system arm switch, an engage switch, and a wide open throttle switch.
In my opinion, because you already have a turbo kit (I think) combine efforts and do nitrous and turbo, not one or the other. That way you get the best of both worlds.
One question for you, where do you plan introducing the nitrous into the system?

98798, RE: Turbo to nitrious Posted by Chamuko, Jan-06-07 09:06 PM
The 97+ is a returnless system. It holds the fuel pressure at a set psi, regardless of engine conditions. The ecu makes up for this.
Why do a returnless? Less heat is put into the fuel itself.
1. IF you have to ask, its not for you. You say you have money? pay a shop to do it.
2. There is no such thing as a Safe system, safer yes, but never safe.
You want to be different? This isnt the route.
