98563, putting buil bottom end, 3.55 tranny a good option?

im in the proccess of pulling my engine, and i will be putting a built bottom end in , my goal is 350ish Hp range with 15~20 psi max.
i was researching, and it seems a neon 3.55 tranny would be a good upgrade too to help. or will my stock 5 spd be fine? will i notice a huge diff besides where my crusing speeds vs RPM are? some of those posts are a little confusing tho, it seems i need to find a 2001+ tranny mtx and it will be a direct swap minus changing speed senors? is that correct? and then i read that 1st gear kinda sucked.. whats was mean by that? i find there will be a diff in spool times and duration of the spool time as well, so if i change to a s20g, ill still see faster spool and longer duration reguardless of turbo b/c its a 3.55 gearing?

specs for fun
JE 8.8:1 .020 OB JE file fit rings
clevitte 77 bearings
Eagle H-beam rods
s16g 3"Dp
#30s with sfmu <---will upgrade to 440s for higer psi's
