98256, Blowzilla Turbo?
Posted by eclipse982nrRST, Nov-16-06 06:12 AM
Just wanted to see what you guys thought of these. A buddy of mine is working on his Camaro and he is planning on turbo'ing it and he wanted my help to find him a big turbo for a decent price. The turbo looks okay to me I guess, I dunno. I emailed the guy and he said they have Garrett internals and it is a reliable Turbo, but you cannot trust most sellers on ebay anymore ya know. Anyway, just looking for some feedback on it, or your thoughts...

Not too sure but XS POWER turbos also say that they have Garrett internals, and we all know the true quality of those things.

I didnt know XS Power claimed to have Garrett Internals. Here is what he said when I emailed him asking if these are junk or not and if they are glue'd together like the XS Power Turbo's used to be, lol:

"I have sold well over 100 turbos and have had 1 come back with a problem - which ultimately we weren't sure if the buyer caused it or not. Anyways, these are not glued together or any of that nonsense, they are good quality products."

Why don't you go into his feedback and find some people who have bought the same turbo from him and send them a message or an email and ask them how they liked it if you can.

I would tell him to just pay the $1300-1400 for a GT42, a guy here in savannah is putting that on his LT1 camaro. I wouldnt buy a big turbo from ebay, there is no telling would could happen. Also, if your going high power, like you have said before in other posts, dont risk it and just buy the right things to get that power and not be cheap to save.

Well I know all this, lol. If it were me with the Camaro, I would put a huge 62-1 Turbonetics turbo on his car but he is cheap and wants something reliable which is hard to find for cheap. lol

I'd buy one if it came with a Suckzilla Turbine.

with the a/r on the turbine side.....I hope he is planning on running 2 of these. One per bank. If he thinks he is going to siamese the 2 banks into one and run it to this turbo then No it wont work well.

What motor is it? I'm assuming it's an LT or LS variant? I'd be running two gt40's if I were him. Don't know too many single turbo v8's.

Its a Camaro SS engine.

Damn, turbocharging a V8 with a big turbo is not going to make it any more reliable. One of kevin's(2gnt member) friend here is pushing 367whp all motor, and its a reliable daily driver and another girl running lows 7's in an 1/8 mile all motor. Turbocharging a V8 is going to give you a shit load of power, along with possible problems. Just my opinion, dont be cheap.:thumbsup

what year ss. There were 3 different motors used. The Notorious LT1. A very very limited production (only 2) were released in 96 with the LT4 and they were numbered. 1 was in worth IL 10 years ago. then their is a LS1.

either way the turbo is way to small. tell him to get a blower for it. much easier and just as potent.

if he can find a granatelli unit like I had, its worth all the money the seller wants. but very hard to find complete with the fuel computer.

hey, i bought one of those xs-power turbos from ebay that was glued. it was listed as new with garett internals and what i got was a glued shaft. the turbo spooled 3-4 times then came apart. the seller said i must have installed it wrong. the compressor nut was glued in with a half inch peice of broken shaft threaded in it. yeah, xs-power baby.

This seller is also the guy at cheapturbo.com I believe. They sell all genuine Garrett and TiAL stuff on their website and have a pretty good reputation, I've been recommended to their site a few timse now.

not many single turbo V8s out there?... uh yeah sure, there is lots. they can make huge power as well, but you need a big T4 turbine side or else it'll spool instantly and then fall flat on its face and have no power above 3000rpm.

also, a GT40 is pretty small. a T4/T61 would be a better a choice.
