i ran ten pounds of boost for six or seven months and i cracked two pistons. can i put in my new shit without doing machine work?

wiseco pistons are known for that from what I have been reading on this forum. I would think you would have to hone walls but im not sure.

They are not known for it. I have weisco's and they have seen 18psi Daily and 30psi on one occasion (error). Poor tunign is known to damage pistons.

You need to have the cyl wall checked and honed as nec.

I have wisecos too and theyve seen a ton of boost and mileage and still work fine.

I'm betting user error might have something to do with it...

edit: to answer the question NO, youre going to need to at least ridge ream and hone the block. anytime an engine grenades its a good idea to not just assume its ok.

well, i'm having a shit ton of problems anyway. i got false tourqe specs, and a locked up clutch. after putting the whole thing together the motor wouldnt turn over. i dropped the trany to see why the clutch wouldnt disengage and finally decided to put it back together and put it in 3rd gear with the clutch in and rock the whell out of the car. it broke free. then dropped the oil pan to retourqe the rods and main bearings and got 2 quarts of coolant out of the oil pan. wtf. pulled the head, assuming that was the problem. the book says tourqe the long bolts to 25flbs, short-20#,long-50#, short-25#again,long-50#again,shorts-25#again, then give them all 90 degreez. that came out to only about 80# on the long bolts and 50-55 on the short ones. has anyone else had problems whith this before?

wahoooooo. i finaly got my car to fire up. now i have to touqe the bottom end one more time. the touqe specs i got woulnt allow the motor to turn so i had to tourqe them all at much less than required. i let it run for 2-3min. just purred. anyone else go through this before(tourqe specs problems)

hey' have any of you guys biult your motors or what? i'm having trouble whith the bottom. if i tourqe the main bearings and rod caps to specs, the motor wont turn over. i had to set the mains at 30# and the rods @25#. even then it had trouble running, so i let it run for a few secs and shut it down and so on. now its fine at these numbers but i'm not comfortable with running the motor with only half or a third of the torqe on the bottom end.?????

Plastigauge your clearances?

You have improper clearances. Dj is telling you to use a plastigage to measure the clearance between the bearign journal and the bearing. If you do ot know what that is i suggest you take the motor out and give it to a machine shop. That is a very critical aspect tot eh engine building process and must be done. Since yours wont turn over when torqued, you have a huge issue.

Most of us have, in fact.

You either have the wrong bearings, are using too tight of clearances on your crank, or are using the wrong torque spec.

As well, Eagle rod caps are directional and if they're on backwards, you'll bind the crank and tear the shit out of that bearing. Might want to double check them, though if you've been running it, you've probably already done the damage.
