Whats up everyone? I'm still working on the turbo kit, and found a good deal on a 14b, my manifold has a mits flange but is setup for external wg, so im either gonna block off the external wg or weld the flapper shut, dont know yet, but a guy over on team2g was tellin me the 14b is a bad choice for a 420a, anyone have 1 on their car now? i know ill need a j-pipe for my ic piping. Anyone have any pics of a 14b installed or any advice?

I'd think its good should act like it does on a 1GT, it got more breath than a T25. But then what are you looking for in a turbo fast spool, big power, lotsa boost?

i'm not lookin for anything specific bro just boost, fast spool would be nice, only like 5-8 psi is my goal

I have one but its not on because I am not boosted yet, within the month though. I think that the 14b is a great turbo, depending on conditoin and how much you paid for it. If you paid around 100 and it doesn't burn oil or have shaft play then you got an awesome deal. If it does have shaft play or/and burns oil then look for a small 16g, imo.

nah i paid 150 shipped and it got here fast and is in great shape, he says it burns no oil and has had no problems. i know i gotta get a jpipe but hopefully my ic piping bolts up without any fab to it ... also the filter w/pipe i got with the ic kit is WAY too big for the turbo, id say the turbo is 2 inch and that is 3.5 or something, so i gotta figure out what to do with the filter and stuff

You have 3.5" intercooler piping and are going to run 7-8lbs?

I *think* he meant the intake pipe to the turbo and the filter. I HOPE your IC pipes aren't 3.5" (who would sell you that anyways?!)

nah just the turbo filter pipe is 3.5, the rest is 2 i think i havent measured

all i need are gauges .. oil kit .. downpipe and the fuel pump and im good to go, cant wait!

Just to add a little more...

The 14b really is a great turbo. It is small enough to have great spool, yet can make enough power to drive cars into the 10's (granted they are as light as a paperclip, Joe Bucci). Will easliy boost up to 20psi (anything more will mostly just be hot air ;)), but will run 7-8 very well. I think it is a great choice for a "light build" street car as long as you have the Mitsu flange.

Just make sure you do the wastegate mod. I am in the same boat as you. I have all my ic piping-2.5" mandrel, all I need is the downpipe and j pipe. I have a j pipe on the way though from mitsu for $18, its good to be in the auto biz. Before I got my new job mitsu wanted $60 for it, now its a special order and I can get it for $18.

what should my best bet be for the wastegate mod? either block off the external wg or just block off the flapper on the turbo? someone told me if i run the itnernal wg that id need a wastegate actuator, and that id have to custom fix it because the lowest amount of boost would be like 10 or so psi and im only wanting around 5-7, any idea what to do guys?

If you can afford it then I would say go with the external wastegate so you don't have to worry about creep. With external wastegates you can normally change the spring out on them to lower the boost and you don't have to do the mod to the internal gate. If it were me and I had the money for a external then thats what I would do. You can always raise the boost with a boost controller so get a really soft spring and just raise the boost on the boost controller.

i actually already have a delta mark II wastegate in good shape, my original plan was to go external but what persuaded not too ... but the problem is i do not know anyone who has welded the flapper shut on a turbo, im sure it has to be done really good or i'd have some issues

I have heard of some people actually using JB Weld to hold the flaper door shut, or you could just hit it with a tack weld.

i can vouch for this turbo (on a 4g63). i picked up a used one for 100 locally, and it works great. it has no problem hitting 20psi if needed. it wont pull as hard as other up top, but its going to spool tons quicker then those turbos.

i was told by several people that it spooled up pretty quick and would be great for my goals ... anyone know if jb weld would work for sure? i work at a steel mill so i could take it to work and get someone to weld it, just depends how it has to be welded you know
