97554, maybe missing link problem. Posted by ChloRure, Sep-30-06 04:39 PM
Ok, since my install is finish, it was hard to get boost for now. I was driving like normal... and push the gas to try to hit boost and my car give me a "check engine cel" now the car seem to miss fuel when i push a little to hard, can it be a missing link problem? And it would also explair my vacuum leak ? Btw the missing link look ok... and since its not difficult to install...

Did you by the ML used or new? If it's used you may need to clean it.

bought from a member, open box but never installed. The filter was already put in. Did you know what will be the check engine code for that problem? and is a regular fcd a better choice?

What does your fuel setup consist of?

for the moment, stock injector, 12:1 vortech fmu and walbro 255.
Im scared now to drive the car... i drive it slow because it react weird... will check more this weekend. If im at a stop or a light I can see my a/f (from apexi turbo timer so its cheap...) at 14.6 than will drop to 10...11...12 and go back to 14 for maybe 10sec than go back to 10... when I push the gas it read in the 14. At idle my egt is between 800 and 1000. If I drive slow and dont step hard on the gas it read about 1200. Ive try to push it a little harder (not wot) and egt was about 1400 at around 50mph... Ive not connected my fuel pressure gauge yet because didnt have the good fitting in hand. Also, if i relase and press the gaz it will miss or take a sec to react. Im pretty sure all my problem is related to fuel. Maybe I should just buy a sfmu instead of my fmu. Ive never see anything better than ~ 2psi. At this time I was at 1500 egt so i release the gas. :(

Okay, let me get this strait.
You don't have the fmu connected to a vacume source?
My friend, you need a fuel pressure gauge. You have no idea if the pressure is raising at all and if theres no vac signal it's def. not gonna raise the pressure.
EDIT: that a/g gauge is not worth even looking at if it's just a narrowband ie. connected to stock o2 sensor. Theres no way it would dip into the 10's with stock inj. and 47 psi stock fuel presure.

Yeah that a/f is just... shit. Since ill store the car for the winter ill wait until sping to buy a zeitronix wideband. My fmu have a vacuum connected but was T with bov, boost gauge and egt. Ill change it to its own place this weekend. The line I used for the fmu is maybe 9 feet long and its a "windshield washer hose" Ill get some fuel pressure hose this weekend too. I already have a fuel pressure but not pluged yet. Ill will have the adaptor for the weekend too. As for the missing link, ill clean it and reinstall . (Im waiting for an electornic one already ordered.)
thanks for info!

Sorry to hijak the thread like this, I am having a similar problem though. I have the walbro 255, 12:1 fmu, stock injectors, zeitronix wideband with egt and boost and a fuel pressure guage. I am running a 14b. It is about 7 or 8lbs. At idle i am at about 50psi on the fuel pressure guage. My CEL is on so i put the snap on scanner on it today and it says O2 bank one, and MAP bank one. I'll be driving along and the A/F is about 15 or so and then when i give it some gas it will start to buck and drop down to about 11 and then go back up as i push more on the gas and it works fine. It is also doing this at a constant speed, say if i am cruising on the highway at about 100km/h and it will just start to buck like crazy and the A/F drops. The EGT is roughly 1200 or so at a cruising speed. Somedays the car works perfect and other days it's a bitch, I changed my plugs today and cleaned my missing link. I can't think of anything else to try, any ideas anyone?

Buy an FCD.

Today I just replace my fmu vacuum line for a real fuel pressure hose (3/16) and I tap it on his own vacuum. Car feel better, will not hesitate as much as before. For the missing link, ive clean it but still doesn't work. Ive reset my ecu and when the turbo hit the cel came on and feel the fuel cut. Btw, I continue to flore it and I was able to get around 3 psi this time. Is it normal since I got the fuel cut ?
