Hey guys, I have been kinda busy with my install, but I decided to get you up to speed with how things are going. I did my Walbro 255 and FMU install this past weekend and it went good. Just got my new intercooler in the mail today also, a little overkill, but it was a good price. I should get my gauges in tomorrow and I will probably wire those up and install my FCD. I am waiting on getting my friend's manifold that he was going to give me along with a downpipe and internal wastegate setup to finish up the parts I need, but he is waiting on a Treadstone manifold and they are backordered so that kind of sucks. Probably 1-2 weeks still before I am boosting. Here are some pics I have so far:

My car on stands for fuel upgrades:

FMU Install:

Vacuum line routing:

BOV, Before and After some TLC:

Before:

After:

(Repainted in my Custom Paint class at college, Dupont Jet Black)

FMIC:

Piping, clamps, and couplers:

^Waiting on a 1g aluminum flange and stubby pipe from RRE to have welded on.

Any questions, just ask, but otherwise comments and critizism are welcome.

UPDATE GUYS:

Mounted the FMIC today. Was kind of a pain to do, ran to the hardware store about 3-4 times to get everything i needed. Turned out pretty good though actually, I'm happy with it. Here are some pics:

Ghetto/ Custom Brackets:

Mounted on car:

With bumper on (had to hack a bunch off)

I have a bunch more pics so if anyone needs help or doesn't get how I did something, just post and I'll try to explain.

Hooked up my gauges today, I have Boost, Oil Pressure, and Water Temp on the A-pillar. Plans for saturday include fabbing some brackets for the intercooler and hooking up the pimp FCD from Mike. It's all coming together pretty nice so I will keep you guys up to date. Thanks for all the kind words (and smart-ass comments as well haha).

I'm guessing, but there is no way your bumper reinforcement is gonna fit on with that massive thing. I know i had to cut mine all to shit and mine is half that size. It looks awesome!!
97478, RE: My turbo build :D
Posted by BlackMagic, Sep-24-06 04:54 PM
Lol yea no reinforcement there...I took mine out too, *crosses fingers*
97480, RE: My turbo build :D
Posted by totaleclipse_05, Sep-24-06 05:58 PM
Yep, no room for reinforcement so I left it off. I figure if I rear end someone anyways, even with that thing on, I will still mess up my intercooler, radiator, etc.
97497, RE: My turbo build :D
Posted by idlook2, Sep-25-06 02:49 PM
haha, yea, i should have left mine out instead of hacking it to death. Oh well, it'll be coming out next year when i get a bigger one anyways. I need a new front bumper as well so i didn't mine cutting that either :P

A little update,

Worked on my car from about 4 pm yesterday until 3:30 in the morning. Have the manifold and turbo mounted up, downpipe is basically on, and intercooler piping is just about done (1 pipe left). I just need to finish oil lines, the 1 pipe, FCD, and various little things (tightening things, ziptie stuff ha). So far so good IMO, we had some things that gave us a rough time, but I believe the hardest is over and its gonna go downhill from here. We didn't make our Sep. 2006 deadline, but it was close lol. I need a nap before I work on the car some more, 3 hours of sleep and then went into work for 8 hours. I'm a little tuckered out haha. Pics will be posted ASAP so don't worry guys. Thanks for keeping up with my project.

The boost hath arrived! There's a leak somewhere, whether exhaust(pre-turbo) or boost causing a slow spool time, but we'll get on that tomorrow.

Pics coming soon!

Something that no one has mentioned, that you should take notice on, is the vac line going all the way back to the fmu..

That is a lot of line open to tares on the bottom of your car. How long is it going to last? What happens when you go into boost and your fmu doesn't raise pressure due to a tare? Or, what happens if you go into boost too fast for the fuel to rise?

Another thing.. now it's not everyones experience, but when I used the vortech fmu and the 12:1 disk, I ran too rich and would bog down. Any other disk would not provide enough fuel. I think you should seriously rethink your fuel setup.. the Sfmu is worth the money and that vac line spells trouble to me. Just my .02 but ive been there and blown that ;)

Agreed ^^^^ I was thinking the same thing. If that’s the fuel setup you are going to run that’s fine but I would relocate that fpr to the engine bay, keep it upright and make the vac line shorter. (Which it will be once it is under the hood)

other than that, wash your sheets and happy boosting ;)

Thanks for your guy's concerns. I will keep that in mind. I plan on using an SFMU when I pull my engine and build it (within the next year hopefully). I do have a concern of my own right now though. Don't worry, I checked the vacuum line already and no tears or anything on it.

My car was leaning out at WOT, not at 3/4ths or anything, just WOT. I was reading up that a tear in the gasket on the FMU would maybe cause this and I do have a pretty big scrape on mine that goes across the gasket area. Do you think this could cause it not providing enough fuel? I was going to pull it off now and take off all the allen heads screws and maybe fill that area (or the whole area) with some gasket maker and let it sit and cure. I hope that could be the solution. Just wanted some insight on what you guys have to say. I also think I need to mess around with my FCD too, but was going to do the FMU first.

Also the internal wastegate probably wants to boost too high, but I don't get that far to see what it's set at. It's ok though, I'm getting an external wastegate in on tuesday which will probably go on right away. It's set for 6 psi so I should be ok with that. I'll post some pics up in just a few minutes.

Thanks to everyone who has been checking out and keeping up with this thread. It is an awesome feeling knowing that I did all that. I will keep you guy's up to date with car until it is running good haha.

Right on bro, looks good. I bet the fact that your running lean is due to the enormously long vac line. Do you know your fp #'s? What makes you think you're running lean?

Ok, found the problem. FCD isn't working correctly. Took it off and it stays rich at WOT. Fuel cut hits eventually, but doesn't go into the lean area and stay there like it did when I had it on.
