97302, any turbo 2gnts in kansas
Posted by darkclark, Sep-25-06 10:32 AM
i am installing the treastone preformance stage 2 turbo kit i am it came with a turbonetics t3/t4 turbo and a farily big fmic, turbonetics evolution wastgate, a no name blowoff that looks like a greddy blowoff for fuel i am using walboro 255lph, 450cc injectors, safc2, i have just finished putting it together it starts but it does some odd things it will start to rev up slowly like it is building boost and not releasing it i think i may have hooked up my boost lines wrong i am going to try and post some pics but my question is there any one in the manhattan ks area or near with alot of turbo experiance that could maybe come look at it and seewhat i did wrong i would gladly pay for gas of anyone near me to come look at it or if you could give any suguestions based on the symtom http://imageshack.us>

You should resize those pics.

Tell us where all your vacuum lines are hooked up to: BOV, wastegate, etc.

Do you have the bov hooked to the egr? I would route it to the back of the intake manifold and not right off the egr vaccum. It may not matter, but all my vaccums ar running to the back of the manifold. Also are you using a FCD or ML? And what kind of FMU are you using? Also are you throwing any codes?

a line going from the turbo out to a turbo xs 2stage boost controller then to the waste gate and i have a line going from the top of the wastegate to the blowoff and the boost guage is hoked uf to that line and shows no boost i think the waste gate might be working but nt the blowoff a side not it smokes alot but i think thats because my fuel is to rich having a little trouble tuning the safc2

I would try un hooking the boost gauge and the boost controller since they are not really needed to run turbo, and see if you have the same problems? Also like I asked before what Fuel Managment Unit are you using and are you using a Fuel Cut Defender or the Missing Link? Mine ran funny with no FCD or ML.

Sell your SAFC and purchase a S-FMU. I had SAFC on my 2gnt-t and it did basically nothing, even after an hour of tuning. Also, for a member on DSMtuners he did a before and after dyno run with and without SAFC 2 and recieved about 5 hp I believe. I just disconnected my SAFC and felt absolutely no power loss. This will also rule out whether or not the smoking is due to a poor tune or not.

What year is your car, Manhattan? If it's not a 95 (or close thereto) you have to run some form of fuel cut defender, or else the ECU will cut fuel when the MAP sensor sees boost.

Also, are you saying you have no form of fuel pressure regulator installed whatsoever? :wary That's a big nono. Especially if you have 450cc injectors firing. That fuel pump is just ramming fuel past those injectors into the combustion chamber at all times. I'm going strictly from theory, here, but I would think you'd be on the verge of flooding out with those things an no FPR, unless the engine was seeing some boost to lean it out properly. Wow.

These are two components that are STAPLES of a boosted 2GNT. If you're looking for more help, we've got a guy down in Wichita who runs Haioku Racing with a 12 second, boosted 2GNT. Google up Haioku and see what you can find.

If you still haven't got it figured out by Christmas, I might be able to give you a hand. I'll be up in KC (MO side) for a week at Christmas. Time would be at a premium, but I *might* have some time to help out.

Good luck to you.

Your vacuum hose routing is wrong.

From turbo to BC (in port)
From BC (out port) to bottom port on WG
From Intake Manifold to BOV (Tee boost gauge in on this line)
Top port on WG leave open to atmosphere

This will make your BOV and WG actually work. Still need to follow Brian's advice on your fuel setup though. With what you have not it'll go boom from being too lean.

I believe I am using a 12:1 FMU. That is what came with the star kit.

i think i decided on a vortech 12:1 fmu what sort of fittings do i need to hook it in to my stock fuel line and rail and to prevent the fuel cut i need to get either a fuel cut defender or a missing link right? where can i get eithere of those and which do people prefer?

There are mixed reviews on both FCD and ML. I have the ML, and it has been on the car for almost 2 years now without a problem. I used to have a FCD but it shit out on me and I hit fuel cut on the freeway :( Just do a search on here and you should be able to find a link on how to make a FCD. Or you can get the ML on ebay.

And I believe all the fitting come with the FMU. You will just need some vaccum line.

Wow thats the most I have ever helped someone on this board. Damn I must be learning things. Good luck. If you need any help installing the FMU just pm me.

you guys have been very helpful i will fix the vacuum lines and have ordered a missing link i will soon be ordering the vortech 12:1 fmu what do i need to hook it into the system, can i use the stock fuel lines?

You will probably need a couple more feet of fuel line for your FMU hookup, I know I did. I personally went with a FCD made by eclipse982nrRST. I would contact him here via PM to see if he will have any made up soon. Can get one from him for under 30 bucks if I remember correctly.

just a side note about this i think i am the first person to buy a "full" treadstone preformance turbo kit as jason stone was asking for pics of my install for his site cuse he just added this kit to his inventory but if i get it all running with the ml and fmu it will have cost me about 2800 for the entire stage 2 kit incliding a few peices that had to be fabricated

anothe question on vac lines there is a place on the back of the intake manifold where there are 3 of them on goes to the egr and the other 2 go to a empty plastic box what does this box do and can i use those for the blow off and fmu

You probably are. He can't send anything out ever. My friend tried ordering his manifold through them about 1 and a half weeks ago and they said they were in stock, but received an email 2 hours later saying they were out of stock for 2-3 weeks. He has tried to keep contact with him, but Jason seems to be a dickhead about it all. Not sure if I like this company right now, but we will see if he pulls through for my friend.

I disagree with this. Route the boost controllers signal line to the manifold. cap off the barb on the turbo. What happens is the turbo is the first thing to make pressure, and the wastegate will start to crank off its seat before youre even at full boost, causing you to effectively chase your tail to to hit full boost.

Route the signal line to the BC from the manifold, and you'll notice a major difference in response.

thank for the opinions on how to set up bc i wil try it both ways and would apreaciate a response about the black box it has no sensors or any thing can i take it out?
97488, got it leaner but not enough
Posted by darkclark, Sep-25-06 09:49 AM
i now have a 12:1 fmu in place and a missing link on the way and have leaned it out by tunring the fuel flow down to 50% with the safc through most of the rpm range but it still revs up like im in the gas when i start instead of idleing is there a way to lean it out more with out spendine much more money im hitting the end of my budget and i need to leave some of it for dynotuning onec i can drive it putting the stock injector is no longer an option because i re did the injector harness when installing the resistor pack for the 450's

Okay now that you have an fmu AND an safc the afc will be useful no matter what these guys say. The major use i found for it was pulling the 50% fuel under 1000rpms which I assume thats what you did. That helps by keeping fuel trims as normal as possible.

Now I would be getting a fuel pressure gauge that screws onto the schraeder valve on the fuel rail.

When I went out to test my car i did the following.

-I had Fp gauge hooked up and running in the car along with boost and egt gauge.

I strted out down the road slowly on the throttle watching for boost and watching the fuel press. As you gain 1 psi of boost you shold be able to see the fmu working by raising the FP 12:1 with 1 psi boost fp should go from 15ish at idle (thats what I had with my 450's)up 12psiand so on.

Once I got past the paranoid stage of making sure there was actually fuel in there I got on it a bit and watched the egts. I had the car fairly tuned with the safc to the point that I could floor it in any gear, build full boost and be 12ish a/f at all times.

Now your only problem is a 12:1 is too much raise. you need like a 3:1

12:1 is for stock injectors and since you hacked up your harness your eff'ed unless you can find one at a junkyard.

With the 450's the car is amazing at 8psi compared to stock injectors and I wouldn't change them out, I would get a proper SFMU of of a member or ebay.

With my car I had the following and It idled perfect and pulled hard.

Base FP - 14psi w/o vacume connected
static fp - 18psi
FP @ 8psi - 45ish psi
SFMU with 3:1 disc bleed valve closed
SAFC only pulling 50% at >1000rpm
Perfect STFT +/-3%

You need an sfmu my friend

Matter of opinion but I see where you are coming from. This would be the case for a MBC. I use an EBC so I don't really care. The WG opens when I tell it to open. Not a moment earlier. It's also how mine is setup and I don't have any problems with it but like I said ... using an EBC over an MBC makes a HUGE difference as well.

EBC = Electronic Boost Controller
MBC = Manual Boost Controller
