97289, need help with fuel system
Posted by hybridrst, Sep-18-06 01:36 PM
I need help finding out what fuel system to run on my 96 rs. I have a fully built motor and a star stage 2 turbo kit. I would like to be some where around 300hp to the wheels. I only have $1000 to spend what would be the best to get. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Let's see ...

MSnS
Bigger injectors ... say 500cc/min at a minimum
1:1 FPR
Probably need some lines and fittings too for the fuel system (adding a return if you don't have one, etc.)

If you don't have these already you need to get these ...
WBo2
FP gauge

What do you have for fuel upgrades (if any)? The list Avenger posted is a very good one, although you will still need a fuel pump if you do not have one (Walbro 255 or something similar). But you will definitely need some kind of fuel pressure regulator. If you are going the MSnS route, then obviously a 1:1 will be needed (an Aeromotive unit is very nice, cheap ebay ones are just that, cheap), if not (i.e. running with an AFC or something) then you will need a 12:1 FPR. I also would not run the car turbo'd with a new motor without a WBO2. And, as stated, bigger injectors. With MSnS you can get big injectors, but with just an AFC, I don't know what the limit is, but I think they 'work' up to 40% bigger injectors or so, so 500cc would be well out of the question. Then there are the lines as well, but those get expensive very fast. $1000 is certainly a good start, but might not get you everything you should have.

right now i just have a fmu that came with the kit.I know i'm going to get a fuel pump, but what would be the better system to just get bigger injectors or should i get the 8 injector setup and should i get an sfmu or a safc . Also Is missinglink a good tuner to get.If i can't get every thing now that is fine I'v been slowly building it right for about 2 years now ,I'm new to boosting so i want to get the right stuff .So What should i get to get me started.

If you have a star stage 2 turbo kit it SHOULD have come with a Walbro 255lph fuel pump (why I didn't put it in my list). If you've got the full kit then add those things I listed. Don't run 8 injectors unless you want to modify your intake manifold (or get the PF plate).

You can go the SFMU route but the max injector size for most people has been 440cc/min (few people have gotten large to work). Even with this you'll max out around 300whp at BEST.

You go MSnS you can run any injector size you want, no stupidly high FP, you can control the spark, and a myriad of other features that are good and help make power. It's a little harder but search around ... there is a large number of people running them with good success.

this might be a dumb question but what does MSNS mean.

Megasquirt and Spark.

I'm currently running the HRC port fueler (8inj setup) but I'm switching to the MSnS.
