Like the topic says, is it a possibility that if the oil feed line is too large, that the turbo might get too much oil? Eventually making it spew out of the turbo seals, etc.?

I have a 3/8" i.d. feed line.
Oil is going everywhere, I thought maybe the seals were bad, but the turbo is brand new. Then I saw a few other feed lines and realized how relatively tiny they were. Figured then, that this might be my problem.

FYI the drain line is a 3/4" i.d. line.

What type of turbo? Whats your oil pressure at idle, and under cruising. 3/8 seems pretty fn large. Most are -4an feed lines. If you need an oil line restrictor forced performance sells them, so does 034 motorsports. Or if your crafty but a 1/8npt fitting, have it welded closed and drill a 1/16" hole in it to restrict the feed to 20-30psi. BB turbos can't take that much pressure. Turbonetics says 20-30 at idle on a standard bearing turbo, 50-60 under boost.

I second that. I had the same problem. What ever feed line you have, usually the drain needs to be 3 sizes bigger. ie 1/8 feed 1/2 drain.

the shop that installed mine used 1/8 feed and drain and two turbos later (seals blown) and a bunch of spilled/burnt oil shit was finnaly done right.

Wow.. that's pretty fucking stupid.

Is -6an too large? My -4an broke on me so I used a -6anfeed for my new BB turbo. Should I change it?

-6 is to large unless you have a restrictor. I think on a BB turbo you should have a restrictor even with the -4 line.

hmm.. good info. I'm having a bit of a problem related to this thread. I bought my turbo kit (star stage II) used off someone on here years ago and for various reasons I haven't been driving the car and had the engine tore down. I'm putting the turbo back on and the oil feed line that was being used looked like a stainless brake cable.. but one of the adapters that were used to make it fit broke. Now I need to redo the whole thing. I've been looking EVERYWHERE for something. The turbo has 1/8" Female standard threads for the inlet and I need it to go to an 1/8" T (Female). Anyoine know where I can get a flexible 1/8" line that'll work?

And on a side note.. I completely lost the tubing that bolts to the bottom of the turbo for the oil drain. Anyone know where I can get that too? TIA.

FYI I called turbonetics about their requirments for their BB turbo's. They do not require a restrictor, and reccomend that you do not use one. They reccomend a -3an or -4an feed line and NO 90 degree bends in the line, 45 degree max. (for feed fittings) The restrictor AFAIK is only for the garrett gt series units.

I fixed the problem, I believe it was a combonation of a few things.

One: Too large an oil feed line with no restrictor.
Two: Two bends in the drain line...
Third, and the biggest culpret: I didn't have the crankcase vent line running to the intake of the turbo. I just blocked it off. That was the biggest offender. PCV connected correctly = no smokey :)
