I recently sold my car to a friend that was stationed with me. He called me with a few questions and the mechanic had told him some things had to be changed. I want to have some things clarified before he gets ripped off by someone who does not know much about these cars, or modded sports cars to begin with.

1. The car is hot under the hood what causes this when you have a hahn stage 1 turbo?

2. Rear o2 sensor is on, car has a high flow catalytic converter is this bad for the car?

3. The BOV needs to be positioned underneath of the car is this the correct location for a Blow off valve?

4. Power steering switch is shutting the car off when he steers hard.

Also, can someone post about how much it should cost to fix all the problems?

Please answer questions its very urgent. Please :)

I really don't know what to say about this. I am almost certain the Mechanic is correct on all accounts.

Turbo cars get insanely hot under the hood, its probably not that bad right now but if he moves to stage 2 and up it will get warmer. he can heatwrap his exhaust manifold, downpipe, and get a blanket for the turbine and that will fix it almost totally

BOV under the pipe, no big deal as long as its fastened on their good. if it uses a bolt on flange or a clamp on like a TiAL no problem if you use a silicone coupler, spend the extra on t-bolt clamps to make sure you don't lose it

the other stuff ehhh I dunno

I am just puzzled because I did'nt think any of this was a big deal, but truthfully that car was about as sound and running good as I could imagine it being so with these problems, i dont know. All I am hoping for is that he doesnt rip me off and pays me the rest of the money he owes me, because I have car payments and bills too.

P.S The car sold for $5,400

the only problem i see in that list of questions is that the car shuts off when in cruise control.

1. Turbo cars have more surface area radiating heat and when it is an aftermarket kit they usually have no heat shields. I don't see how this is an issue unless there are obvious signs of melting or overheating. Does the car boil over or is the mechanic just feeling heat and thinking it is a problem. If it's just really hot under the hood I say so what else would you expect?

2. Assuming it is a good quality high-flow cat it should not make any difference to the O2 sensor between the stock cat and a high-flow cat.

3. Why does the BOV need to be under the car? Is it rubbing on some nearby part?

4. Power steering switch should cause the idle to increase when it senses high fluid pressure so that motor doesn't stall when cranking hard on the wheel under idle conditions (like parallel parking). Is this happening while at idle? If so, maybe the switch is bad or the wire disconnected.

I don't see anything here that sounds like a crisis...just normal used vehicle upkeep.

Thanks for the replies. I just wanted to get some information and second opinions for my buddy who bought my car. I busted my ass to make sure this car was perfect before he took ownership of it and its almost like this car is out to make a lier of me. I never encountered the problem with the power steering swith but after 112k miles I guess thats something that would have to be switched, but every other component was installed proffesionaly by a mechanic and I was assured that everything was perfect. But now I get a phone call every other day with problems about the car, when its not really a problem at all its just some mechanic taking him for a whirl. I feel like complete shit because I sold this car for much less than I could have gotten for it to help a friend out, and it just seems like he is very unappreciative of the vehicle he now owns. I know alot of people who would have loved to buy my car as I was told it was one of the cleanest and well kept 2gs they knew of. O'well though I'll just cope with the kick in the balls though I guess. I would'nt really care for how much money I lossed on the car if he at least enjoyed the car, but I just seem to be getting complaints.

Tell your friend to swing on by the forums, so he can learn from certified 2gnt mechanics. ;)

I agree with 96rst... Hot hood is normal (since it is aftermarket, geez I remember you could probably cook an egg on mine)... BOV, normail, power_steering not normal.

Nobody's mentioned this yet and correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't the rear O2 sensor more to tell the computer if your cat is working correctly, however does not effect whether or not the computer will alter the fuel deliver in anyway. I thought only the front O2 sensor did that so a bad rear O2 sensor or no cat shouldn't affect performance/gas mileage. Oh and if this friend is in Florida by you, then in my opinion just say fuck it since they don't have emissions anyways.

Actually, some model ECUs will flag any O2 failure as the same thing and react accordingly. A lost front loooks like a lost front... but a lost rear can look like a lost front, too.
