I know that 95's do not require an FCD. I also know 95's have the 1 plug ECU. What I need to know is what is the exact factor that determines whether or not you need an fcd or not.

I have an early 96 model it was manufactured in 11/95. It has the 95 coil and 95 crank sensor, but it has the 2 plug ecu. The car also has the late fuel system. any help would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Drive it and boost it for awhile, you will know if you need a FCD or not.

Well easiest way to find out is to go ahead and boost it, and if it fuel cuts, then you need a FCD..Its easy enough to put on, so try it out and see what happens. Its my opinion that even the 95's, should still get the FCD anyway, just as a good precaution. The "missing link" FCD would be best, that way your Map sensor doesnt see any positive pressure. I have never really seen any adverse effects of boost on our stock map sensors, but it can never hurt. At a minimum, you can use the DIY FCD with diodes and the poteniomenter. I've used that before, and it works good.

To check for fuel cut, boost it, and be sure to go high enough in the rpm band,and if the car shakes and bucks really bad, thats fuel cut..

thank you both for your opinions. I already ordered an fcd was just wondering if there was any specifics to find out how you would know before boosting. Like an ecu serial number or something.

Why? It's a solid state sensor that can withstand massive intake backfires. I would doubt positive intake manifold pressue from a turbocharger would do anything to it.

As stated above me, I say boost it and find out. It will quickly become obvious if you need one. I ran the ML003-B for awhile and it did it's job as advertised but I was never satisfied with the vacuum to boost transition. Little hiccup if you know what I mean. However I've seen that Synapse Engineering released a C model. That may help some.

Oh, i've seen Map sensors get destroyed by intake backfires, its not like its indestructable...like i said, its not necessary, just an extra precaution for the guys who like to anticipate any potential issue when boosting a NA engine.. I dont like to live on the edge all the time, but thats just me :) I'm the "cautious" guy out there lol
