How much timing are you high boosters (15psi+) pulling??? I'm gonna turn the boost way up soon, head to dyno then track with some race gas ;-) Also is a datalogger the only way we have to monitor our timing?

Yeah, my obd-2 software reads timing, and ummm does our DFI software read timing? I know it doesnt control it but I dont remember whether or not it reads it and can be displayed. I'll get my car backtogehter soon and give you some #'s.

a datalogger is the only way for your average joe tuner to get timing advance.

We datalogged Joe's auto RS at 15PSI. At WOT, by 5000RPM he'd bottom out at 14* advance, which is as low as the the ECU will let it go at WOT.. Thura's NT auto RS datalogged gave us around 18-20* advance through the whole powerband. We haven't done my 5spd at 15PSi yet, nor have we done Jason's NT 5spd.. but that's what we got on the autos.

What kind of cable are you guy's using to log??? Is it the cable from http://www.obd-2.com ? I have the Pocketlogger and it Does NOT work :( So what should I get?? I did however stumble apon this cable http://206.124.12.138/codsm/tunerstein/index1.html

i plan to get either a msd dis2 which works off of rpm retard etc .. or should i get the crane ignition which works off of boost proportion? btw msd dis2 = $300 about crane= $700+ ?

also how much are you guys retarding with a turbo ? and what boost level are you running? im only doing 5-10 psi

You know, MSD does have a Programmable DIS2 with boost retard system as well. In fact I have one of those. You can program it with a laptop or optional handheld programmer from MSD. It's really cool and you can do all the things the DIS2 does and much more, including boost retard. Also has options for controlling other things like nitrous and what have you. As for the price of the unit, I'm not quite sure what it retails. My car has it because it was the car used for its prototype system. Of course all went well so the unit is now on the market. The guys at MSD are really cool and do know what they are talking about(the guys that I deal with anyways; never called tech support, I always call straight to these guys). This unit does use the same tach adapter (1 adapter only!) and works beautifully. They hooked up the system at the MSD facility at El Paso. Since boosting, I noticed that call does pull alot more and does retard at what ever boost or rpm you specify. Get this one if you must get an ignition system. They also mounted it in a cool position in the engine bay, but sucks to drive with cable hanging outside the car to monitor igntion software on the laptop!! Any questions, just let me know. I have my MSD mounted under the passenger seat. It is a lot easier to work with. The programmable DIS-2 is really cool and does as advertised, but you forgot to mention it costs twice as much as the Crane which can also do boost based timing retard which really is better than the RPM based retard I am using with the standard DIS-2.

Yeah, like I said, I don't really know how much the unit costs. But the unit does allow for boost retarding by using a map sensor unit that reads boost and retards it a specified number of degrees from as low as 2psi and on. The unit has a lot of features and is supposedly running around the $700 area, which is what I was told. I will get more information on it and spread the word. I do know that this unit was from a motorcycle setup that they decided to try on our cars!

We use the logger from OBD-2.com with the ISO cable. Still having trouble working the software like i want to, but it works quite nicely.

why doesnt your pocket logger work?? i have been in the market for one, but havent gotten any CELs lately to motivate the purchase.
