Well today i had a day off so i started to installed everything. i got everything in besides my downpipe because i didnt get my flange in the mail yet.. well everything was set to go so i started it to check everything (and of course it was extremely loud lol) well i let it run for a minute and it started smoking blue smoke (burning oil). I looked at the exhaust side of the turbo and theres oil dripping out not to much but enough to make quite abit of smoke. Anyone have any ideas? turbo was supposely rebuilt because there is no shaft play in it. And another question.. because there is no downpipe there will be no pressure in the intercooler lines right? as soon as i figure this out and get it running ill have some pics.

Blue smoke is probably a blocked oil return line. That would also cause your oil to start seaping from the turbo's seals.

It may not be blocked though. When I did mine the line I chose was too small even for the amount that comes out of the return on the turbine.

Use at least a 3/8" line imo.

Also the turbo with a 'Rebuild' just might be fucked.

even 3/8'' is kind of small . i use 10an which is 5/8"

well im thinking there was a kink. i welded the bung way to close to the ac lol but the hose still goes on. possibly because im using a hose barb to connect the line to the bung?? maybe its to small of a inlet idunno... i ordered a new exhaust manifold gasket today and will hopefully have it back on 2marrow night after work to see if theres any oil coming out. i hope i get my dp flange tomorrow so i can make my dp so its not so loud.

Ya, a hose barb fitting is probably too small.

what would you suggest using??

I brazed in a huge pipe fitting and connected 1/2in steel braided hose to it. No problems yet!

Also, you must make sure that the line always goes down. That side of the turbo sees VERY little if any oil pressure, and gravity must be used to get it back into the pan.

Also, even with no downpipe, you can acheive boost (ie: pressure in the I/C lines) You won't see this if you're just idling of course, only when in boost, but I'm figuring I don't have to explain the whole vacuum/boost thing to you.

well i got a new piece and its flowing good but its still burning mad oil!! only thing i can think is a seal in the exhaust is bad... any other ideas?

EDIT: Well i took it for a test drive and didnt smoke when i drove around but does the local ace or homedepot sell steel braided lines for return lines??

no, i think you can shell out that 100 bucks and get the hrc oil kit. thats if you have an hrc turbo. if not. order stuff from local machine shop or jegs.com

ok i think i might know the problem but not sure.... how big does the fitting have to be that connects the feed line to the turbo?? the fitting i have is a small inlet hole.. how big does it have to be?? i was thinking it wasnt getting enough oil possibly. well i should have pics posted tomorrow. and ill search but ill just ask anyways.. what should oil pressure be at?
