My turbo had started blowing a lot more oil lately so I decided to send it to Hahn for a rebuild.

bearings were shot which explained the wiggle in the shaft which then explained the scoring on the housing.

Apparently the original owner of the car when it was a stage 1 had the housing polished. The guy that put it back together didnt rebalance it or use new seals.

600 bucks I basically had to get a whole new S16. I wanted the 20 but there was pretty much nothing from my old one that was still usable and I didnt have the 800 a 20g would have cost

You should have gotten a Garrett turbo and made it fit ;)

Removing the compressor housing won't unbalance the turbocharger.

Aaron at Hahns tech dept starting getting real technical. That is about the only thing I understood. Bottom line, damn thats expensive.

That is what I thought because I read about people clocking thiers all the time. Aaron said something about a thrust bearing being out of alignment (I am not techically inclined enough to know what that is) and scoring on the shaft.(that sounds like it hurts)

either way, Hahn said that they couldnt rebuild it.

I am just upset because now my nice polished and powerdercoated compressor housing is gone.

In order for the thrust bearing to be out of alignment you would need to remove the compressor wheel. You should have asked for your compressor housing back. You should have asked for the whole damn turbo back.

I'm pretty sure there's a law that says you are entitled to all replaced parts when getting car repairs?

Sounds like HRC is blaming the failure on the previous owner attempting a full CHRA teardown and rebuild, but you're saying that never happened, and the turbo just failed. I dunno, I'd make a big fuss in Bill's direction.

If they claimed it was due to oil starvation or foreign objects in the oil, that'd be one thing, but they're saying it was rebuilt improperly!?

i got my stuff back today
it came in two boxes
one was all the internal parts that they replaced

the other was my turbo
they repolished my compressor and exhaust housing and replaced the center unit entirely

looks great now
lets see if it will work correctly
