95868, 95 rs stage III with rebuild
Posted by elvisdamon, Jun-23-06 03:37 PM
hey everyone another virgin here so take it slow and easy. I'm lookin at installing an hrc stage III on my stock engine but i'm also going to rebuild the lower engine and maybe top. I've had mixed advice on the subject as to whether i'm going to blow the engine or not. Some say to just stick with the stageII others say I'll be fine.I've researched and looked hundreds of places with no definite answer. any solid help is greatly appreciated. difference between stage II and III?

This is a given answer. If you wanna make power, why put on big parts to run 8psi and risk blowing your stock motor?

Pull your engine, rebuild it with forged internals, get your stage 3, get MSnS and boost the shit out of your car with no worries.

Only one way to make power, and thats doing it the right way with no short cuts!

LOL aren't you still using the SFMU? And when are we gonna get to see more pics of the new paint job on the widebody? Unless if I missed them I've been gone about a week.

None the less, to the OP listen to Mike he's got one of the sickest cars on this site.

Yes I use the SFMU now, however I DO have MS. Only reason its not in, is because I am waiting to buy MSnS :)

Completed pics of the new color will be up next weekend however, I did post a couple sneek peek pics awhile ago, like 3 weeks ago!

well as far as I know the stage III comes with rods and pistons. Many will probably recommend getting the stage II or piecing together your own kit and then choosing the rod/piston combo you want.

If you build the bottom end you shouldn't have to worry about it blowing as long as you have a good tune and the fuel mods to support whatever amount of boost your running.

If you're keeping the bottom end stock, then you do have to worry a bit about whether or not you blow the bottom end. Do a compression test first to see what kind of condition your engine is in and then do any basic maintenance that should be done before boosting and you should be fine.

I've been boosted for about a year now on 7psi w/the stock bottom end, some people have had their bottom end only last about 1 month after boost. The general consensus is for safe daily driving, 7-8psi is the limit on the stock bottom end.

thanks guys. should i rebuild the top of the motor as well or just stick with the bottom? and i've been hearing alot about getting a stand alone engine management system. Will i be ok with just the kit they send me or should i junk some parts for diff. ones?

Do like blackmagic did. Take a stock eclipse, call hahn and say I want to go to stage 5. (or stage whatever)

They sent him everthing he needed. Granted it was pricey but it included, engine parts, fuel parts, clutch parts etc.

yes other things are nice such as a wideband, datalogger etc but not totally necessary

In other words tell the tech at Hahn ( I recommend talking to Brad) what you have and what your goals are and he will tell you what they can do for you and how much it will cost.

as far as building the top end goes, im kinda in the same boat, im doing a engine rebuild right now, and i was thinking about rebuilding the top end, ya know cams SS valves, the works... i decided against it. im gonna have the machinist check the springs out and retainers, etc for damage, replace the valve seals and guides, do a 3 way valve job and put it back together...for a typical stage 3 kit, its basically a stage 2 w/ a built bottom end. so stock should be good for you, and as far as cams go, i was just reading up about this the other day (dont remember exact post and im too tired to go and find it right now) but bigger cams dont really help w/ a turbo, since you can still only force X amount of air at a rated PSI through Y sized hole in any given amount of time. so the whole purpose of "bigger lift" and "longer duration" seems kinda moot.
