Just wondering wat EGT temps should be around, i kno peoples will be different depending on there setup and tuneing and stuff, but im just looking for a basic estimate as to wat my egt's should be at at like idle, WOT, cruising u kno stuff like that, i wanna be able to tell if my tune is off of if the EGT guauge i bought is off so any help would be great guys

I have always tried to keep it below 1550-1500. Is this the only way your tuning for fuel? If you dont have a wideband 02 sensor i'd recommend one. With egt and wideband 02 you can really get the car dialed in and keep $hit from blowing.

under boost i cannot keep my EGT under 1600. AFR is excellant. Idle I am between 8-1k degrees F. The lower compression you go the hotter the EGT will be. In my case i am prolly breathing fire with late ignition. Cam adjustment doesnt help. Timing control is what i need to work on. The high side of the coin is that boost peak is instantaneous.

I can't keep mine under 1600 either. Low compression, Crane 16 cams 8 degrees of overlap removed. A/F is Great 11:3 to 11:7. Timing between 17-19 degrees WOT

alrite guys, i do have an AEM wideband, but for some reason, it goes crazy on me when im driving, the number reads all over the place, some say its a bad ground for my wirirng, and i fixed that and it still does, it, any suggestions will be great, and my egts r pretty good, but since i havent lowered my compression from stock, should i idle at like 10-11, i cruise at around 12, and at WOT when i get in the upper rpms in ;ike 2nd and 3rd, im way up there it doesnt seem to go past 16 but i dont let it either, and im wondering wether i should get a new EGT guague or not

Do you have to calibrate your AEM? I have a Innovate and it requires calibration. Maybe try recalibrating it.

there isnt really anything to calbrate or recalibrate

as far as calibration goes, widebands measure the % oxygen in the air it is sampling right. normal outside air is 21% oxygen so if you unscrewed it from the downpipe and powered the unit it should read an afr of 21 right.

Could be a bad ground, or bad probe install. Where's your probe? do you have any holes in the exhaust (leaks) that air could be getting in from? Backpressure?

No, i changed my ground, and it still does it, the probe is in the second O2 bung after the CAT, and i have kno CAT just a test pipe and no leaks that i kno of

You should probably move it to the down pipe.

Oh, you don't like altezza's? Too bad, your gonna get a good look at mine.

Your EGT probe is after the cat? You should move it to the #1 cylinder runner on your exhaust manifold (usually the leanest cylinder), or just after the turbine.

+1
This is the first i've heard of a egt probe being after the car. Where in gods name did you research to find this solution? At first I thought you meant you had your wideband sensor in the rear o2 sensor spot, i was gonna tell you to move that too :) Putting it in the runner of the leanest cylinder has always been the recommended way to do the install, that way you know the rest of them are in good shape (you hope).

No u r right, my o2 sensor is in the rear O2 bung after the CAT, i didtn think it would mattter since i dont have a CAT and my EGT is in the 4th runner, im not that stupid to put the EGT probe after the turbo lol

You should be fine. Check to make sure gauge has a good Ground.

I would have the wb within 2' of the turbine.

x2 but not too close

well i had an original ground and i changed it to see if that was the problem and it wasnt so now the only thing i can think of doing is moving the o2 sensor to the front o2 sensor bung and see if that works

you really should have someone weld on a seperate bung onto your downpipe for your wideband that way you can have the O2 in there and the wideband at the same time. Thats what I did and I have no problems at all. Where you have the wideband at now (after the testpipe) will not give you an accurate reading. Also my EGT was at 900-1K for idle and no more then 1500-1550 for WOT on stock internals.

x2 . zeitronix says to put the sensor 16 inches from the turbo . well 16 inches is where the stock front 02 sensor is i have another bung in my downpipe 15'' from the turbo and i get good readings

It does not matter how far back you put your wbo2 sensor. You can leave it where it is. You have a wiring issue or your sensor/gauge took a shit on you. I had to change mine already.

Taken directly from Zeitronix installation...
"The Wideband Oxygen sensor must be positioned after the turbocharger and before the catalytic converter. Recommended installation requires welding the O2 sensor bung in the down pipe at least 16” away from the turbo. A stock narrowband O2 sensor location is usually too hot for the wideband O2 sensor. The oxygen sensor must be positioned vertically (wires pointing upwards between 10 and 2 o’clock) to prevent cracking of the sensor ceramic element and protect sensor against water condensation."
Key words to me being, at least 16"

that only applies if you have a converter.
