95541, HELP! just turboes and a very rough startup Posted by 98dsmNT, Jun-09-06 09:02 PM
ok so i just finished installing my turbo setup and upon startup it idled quite rough and made a clicking sound like it had no oil. i later found out that there was oil leaking from the feed line to the turbo. that will be an easy fix tomoro but what bothers me is that my friend says the boost gauge read 20psi VACUUM..i have no clue why. can someone please help. this is what i have:
s16g hahn mani hann oil lines 1g BOV custom piping 12:1 FMU homeade FCD boost and oil pres gauge hahn DP

the clicking might be an exhaust leak . 20hg's of vac is good .

More than likely from the manifold mating surface to the head. Did you use studs?

i used the stock studs that were for the original NT manifold. i smell exhaust leak and im pretty sure thats what that sound is but now i am still having oil leaking problems. they are getting progressively better and less but they are still there. the piece of the feed line that connects to the block isnt screwed in all the way becasue i cant with my oil line the way it is. i have teflon paste on all the connections but it doesnt seem to be working. my oil pressure gauge reads 50psi at idle. is that bad? when i start her up a little bit of smoke comes out the compressor housing but just a puff and thats it. is that normal. the turbo spins fine. i tried to slowly increase the rpms to see if anything changes and it really struggles to raise at first then slowly goes up but it sounds like its having a reaally hard time doing that. the oil only leaks when revving. o and i was messing with my fmu to change out for better hoses so i disconnected the harness under the back seat in the middle and forgot to plug it back in before i started. it leaked a little gas. someone help me. im so close but everything seems to be snowballing and im about to give up here. is there any way to tell exactly where the exhaust leak is coming from?

You need to go over all your FMU connections...something is right.
As for the manifold, I would use 4G63 8mm studs, not bolts.

it might cause an exhaust leak

Unfortunantly, as for the oil leak, it may get better but it will never solve itself. Before you drive the car take the line off and make sure all of the fittings going into the back of the block are tight, and I mean tight. As tight as you think they are now, they need to be more. It's a common problem with turboing.
