94324, Car is faster with 2 psi then with 10 psi

Well last night I went to the track. I figured I would raise the boost up to 10 psi and see what I could do, maybe push the limit. Well the first run I made was at 7-8 psi and I ran ok, got a 10.37, not my best but not horrible. After that I raised my boost to 10psi, and it was an absolute dog. At about 8-9 psi I would pull hard but when i hit 10psi, I actually thought an IC pipe blew off, thats how much it died. so after messing with the boost all night, I couldnt get it quite right, either turning my super sensitive MBC all the way off or making it 10 psi. I ended up running a 10.9 with 2 psi and a 11.0 with 10psi. I couldn't believe how much of a dog it was. My guess is I just couldnt deliver the fuel I needed. I'm still running the FMU on stock injectors with the walbro 255 Hp.

So thats my guess, just cant deliver the fuel. What do you all think?

I would agree that you're not getting the fuel you need. I would try not taking the stock over 5psi from what I've read around here.

Well I've been running 8 psi for 10k miles now and it's been running great. But the fuel pressure had to be insanely high at 10 psi on a 12:1 fmu... thats 120 psi extra lol.

You pump will max out at 111Psi. Your prolly losing time because your leaning out the fuel mixture. Once the fuel mix lean out you begine detonating and the ECU will retard the timing so fast that i will appear your car is falling on its face.

Ok thats what I figured.Thanks. Oh yeah, I went junkyard hopping looking for a 2.4 today, but for some reason both junkyards were closed. Gonna have to go during the week.

my stock injectors boosted @5-6psi fine for a few weeks. then they started to jam. when i swaped them for 310cc, they would jam at about 75-80 psi. i couldnt boost more than 3-4 psi w/out jamming. i have 4 more 310cc injectors if u want buy them?

You could only run 3-4 psi of boost on the 310's before they would jam?

Right now my car is faster at 5 psi (not even 1/4 throttle) up to 5K rpms than flooring it and going to 10 psi.

You guys are crazy running 10psi on stock injectors. My car pulls the timing at 4-5 K rpms

I did this run with the intention of show this same problem.

At high rpms the stock injectors are maxed out and almost open constantly and just can't keep up with what your asking them to do. Thats why the ecu is pulling the timing here. I only planned on going %50 throttle and this is how it felt. It fell on it's face really, just didn't feel like going at all so as you can see I let off cause it was getting a little hot (1500) and thats stupid.

All I'm saying is running stock injectors and boosting that much is stupidity at it's finest. Unless you don't care and/or worry about your motor blowing. I do so I'm going with 450's and will do some more logs this week hopefully.

I drive my car at 1/4 throttle all the time and boost 5ish psi and it feels okay then and boosts good with stock injectors.

I won't go beyond that :shrug

Good stuff. I didn't push it up to 10 psi out of stupidity, I just wanted to see how far I could push the envelope with the motor. If I did blow the motor, It would leave me without a car for a few weeks but I have been looking into a 2.4 swap anyway. I just wanted to see what that baby could do.

no, my stock injectors wher jamming @ 3-4psi just before i yanked them out. these 310s, sweeeeeet. easy swap. no wiring. i'm running 8psi now. no problem. i still got the other four.

what about fuel pressure? what are you running for that? And how much are we talking here for these? thanks

I been running 8 psi for quite some time now but if i try to push it above 10 i do get fuel cut real bad. everyonce in a while if i go full throttle and floor it ill hit fuel cut as i pass 6psi however never had a problem with fuel below 6psi. I actually swapped my 10psi actuator out for the 4-6psi one from hahn since i had both and the car does run alot better with no cut.

I ran a 9.6 with just the hahn stage II and 8.8:1 compression. Those times should be significanly lower, hell I ran a 10.5 with intake and a muffler.

yes, I know. I ran a 9.9 last time I was there. Like I said, my car ran like a dog at 10 psi, thus the whole point of this thread.

Oh sorry, I was going off of "Well the first run I made was at 7-8 psi and I ran ok, got a 10.37" which you said was before it started running like dog therefore I assumed it was running normal when you got that time, thus my conclusion. sorry.

Oh ok well yea that time isn't too great, but this track isn't that great either. They don't really prep it at all, and I was getting 2.4-2.6 60' and I was launchin way better then other people My friend in a civic with better tires then me was getting 3 second 60' and his car isnt really slow. Our school drag car was just screaming the tires all the way down the track. so yea, sorry about the confusion

Well I think I messed up something in my fuel system that night, my guess is the FMU. Now it just dies whenever I push 8 psi but sometimes it picks up a bit after I have been at 8 psi for a few seconds. Almost like turbo lag, but it already has the boost. And it use to push 8 psi with no problems at all. The car will really only pull good at about 5 psi.

like ur not gettin enough fuel? that sux... you might be right though cause 10 psi might f up ur fmu... good luck!
