94172, oil on the intake side of my turbo?
Posted by Dan Zeller, Mar-26-06 08:56 AM
I just looked at the car which was parked all winter, white smoke coming from the exhaust.. also a puddle of oil under it. Oil was dripping from the air filter attached to the intake of the turbo. I took the filter off and see that oil is dripping from the intake side of the turbo...

drain line is good, 1/2" all downhill to the top of the oil pan,, no restrictions there.

Is the only cause blown seals?

How does the car idle? Compression? If these are good, I'm guessing it's probably a blown seal.

not sure about your but my turbo dont have a seal to keep oil in the chamber. it has a ring. one time i leaned out and heated the ex. manifold red hot. after that i got lots of white smoke. the ring got too hot and closed, letting oil around it. open up the turbo and check it out. mine took less than an hour to fix. start to finish.

If it sat for a year, white smoke will probably be normal becuase its probably just a lot of condensation. My car does this when it sits for a week or so, then after it runs it goes away and never comes back either until its cold upon start up or sits for awhile again.

Be safe and check your compression though.

Also, if oil was 'dripping' from your intake filter, thats quite a bit of oil there...

car idles fine, compression is all 170 and above when car is cold. i took the intake side off and there was a small amount of oil near the compressor wheel and the exhaust side was fine. the white smoke was just from it sitting and getting water and snow in the tail pipe I think.
