93240, Damn Gasket.... Posted by hunntyr, Dec-31-69 06:00 PM
I have been boosted for about a year now and I have loved every minute of it except for this one annoying problem. I have had to change the gasket that connects from the turbo to the down pipe 6 times this year. I have even tried some high temp gasket maker and it still does not work. Anyone have any suggestions on what I can do to resolve this problem???

PFFT. BEEN THERE ALL RIGHT.
Truthfully, if theres ANY tiny amount of exhaust getting past the gasket it WILL eat it up in a week/month or whatever. I would recomend getting the 2 surfaces planes flat at a machine shop cause obviousley it's not sealing 100%.
I've done mine probably the same 6 times lol and thats what I had to do and it's been perfect for months.

1) Get a flex section as close to the turbo as possible. If you already have one, get a better one.
2) Clean surfaces on a belt sander or by hand.
3) Metal/Fiber composite gasket. If you have the HRC kit, this is available at Autozone as a v8 "header collector" gasket.

I just made a gasket out of sheetmetal, I havent had a prob since.
Ive also made gaskets out of copper sheeting and it works really well. Never had a leak with that either.
