Finally got this thing going

wiring problems, hesitation problems, cramped arms, all finished

tomorrow the 3" turbo back goes in and then its a week of driving and i am off to the track to fine tune

wierd thing though i fixed my hesistation by unhooking the evap canister. when i would hook up the one way check valve in the line damn thing would almost die until the IAC caught back up. fine unhooked though

is it important.

i tried to baby it the first little bit but after about 10 minutes
i laid into it

the zeitronix says it hit only 11lbs of boost but it definetly felt like it was pulling harder than every before up until that point.

as soon as the doc told me that i could start using my arm again without any limitation i thought what better therapy than to finish this thing out.

i know it isnt precisely tuned but once the hahn downpipe with wideband gets put in tomorrow a few 3rd gear runs down the track should get it going perfect

as soon as my zeitronix shows a good af across the board

I am shooting for 11.5-12.5
i will get a few dyno runs in

once thats all over
the 97 bumper and lights sitting in my garage are going in along with a new paint job

Nice job on the wicked fuel setup, but this is just a niggle...but man that air filter is fuckin ugly as hell, belongs on a 2 barrel carb in an old Volkswagen... you need a big K&N cone filter on that thang.

i am taking it this morning to get the thermal research exhaust 3" maxflow cat, DP and crankscraper in

i would rather do it myself but i still cant reach over my head.

i will post pics of the exhaust once i get it back

so just when i thought everything was going great

i take my car to my mechanic to put the exhaust stuff in

he calls me
yeah we need the band clamp that holds the DP to the turbo

considering that the exhaust parts were never even unpacked

for fear of losing something (irony..look it up)

it had to be the shipping gremlin that they have hired.

worst part is since it has been longer than 30 days since i bought the kit company policy wont let them just send another one

so 40 dollars later i am waiting once again on UPS

at least they can put the crankscraper and all of the exhaust parts except for the DP already on

that makes it official
nothing i have ordered from hahn now to the tune of about 3 orders has come in correctly

stage 1
came with stage 2 piping
stage 2
no intercooler (big part i think)

stage 4 no band clamp

oh well no biggie just sets me back a few days

That sucks man.. Heard that clamp sucks ass anyway. Why not just get it custom welded. Thats what I did, got myself a new downpipe made for like $80

agree. You will be replacing that clamp soon anyway, shoulda just told the guy to weld it.

i just got my 3" turboback on with the V-band clamp, so far i've had no problems putting it on or taking it off. It did however take a month for hahn to get the 3" catback. Eh oh well. I love how this thing sounds

They are thinking of something else entirely... The original HRC downpipe just clamps to the original stock exhaust.... What you and the OP are talking about is the new 3" with the V-Band clamp... actually a very well sealing and functional design.

the bracket that bolts to the turbo housing was there
but no v band

dead on about the original hahn pipe though
i ended up using exhaust filler around the seal like spackle to keep mine from leaking

took a dremel tool to get it all off when the old DP was taken off

as soon as the new v band comes in the new hahn pipe is going in i just hope that the wideband bung was put in the correct spot

they put two bungs in about 2 " from each other

when i got the car back from the shop for the exhaust installation
it had a pretty bad idle fluctation.

i didnt know that to install the hahn 3" dp you have to push the ac lines out of the way

pete (my mechanic here in san antonio) called me and said that the pipe was hitting the ac lines, i called hahn. tech support said yeah didnt you get the instructions for the pipe (blank stare through telephone)
he continues thats normal just bend the ac lines away from the pipe and tie them back
ok simple problem but it would have been nice to know beforehand

however it sounded great if i knew how to post sound clips i would record the thermal reasearch exhaust and post it
if someone could help me out with that i am sure a lot of people would like to hear it

i used my boost leak tester consisting of a schraeder valve and pvc pipe and when u pressurized the system the air was coming out as fast as it was going in from the tb coupler

but i cant wait to get this thing to the track and dyno
i am taking it out today to some backroads with my zeitronix hooked into my laptop and datalogging some 3rd gear to redline runs
i am interested to see the hahn map in action

my mechanic was real impressed with the crank scraper

i got the scraper and windage tray option

first of all the not so good
when you have the windage tray and are turbo you have to cut a notch out of the tray to accomodate the oil return fitting from the turbo
not a big deal just annoying
second apparently there are two oil pickup tubes for the 420a
one pushes the pick up over towards the center of the pan than the other. up until now they people at crank scrapers.com have only seen the ones that are further over so they sent me that kit.
one of the oil doors hit the pickup because i have the one that is closer to the side of the oil pan

now the good news

a quick call to crank scrapers.com and the guy there made a new door and overnighted it to me

no charge.

that is service right there.
the biggest difference i can tell is with my oil pressure gauge
it used to read 15-17 at idle and warm
now it is reads 20ish


ok enough of my ranting i really appreciate all the help and advice everyone has given me over the course of this thing

wouldt the door in question be the shorter and wider one? Thought I was the only one with that porblem. did the new one work? any pics of the new one? I should contact them about it, Mine also wouldnt opend do to it being blocked by the pick up tube.

the oil return... eh a grinder made short work of it.

but in description
one door has two longer trap doors
the other has one wide one

crankscrapers
took the short wide one that was hitting the pickup tube and made another that had two doors that opened around the tube

exactly what I need... did they mention saving the info for it? Or will I have to take meassurements for them?

heh yep, i was kind of angry too, especially since when i emailed them i asked, "will this clear stock a/c lines?" and the answer i got was "yes" not "yes but you have to bend them back, then the damn oil pickup tube, oh well

You had to bend your oil pickup tube to fit the downpipe?!? Damn! :+ ;-)

had to bend it towards the engine about 2 inches total and the dp still rests against the tube

Not your pick up tube guys. The dipstick tube. The oil pickup is in the the pan. if you had to move that for the downpipe ... well you got some issues.

yeah thats what i meant
dipstick tube

the problem with the oil pickup tube is that one of the trap doors for the windage tray hits some versions of it so you have to get the two door setup

i dont know how to tell the difference without actually looking under the oil pan at the position of the pickup
