If you look at my signature below you will see the mods that I have. Basically its the Hahn stage 1, 5psi, Apexi n1, 2.5" custom downpipe and stock cat. My question is what kind of power would I see from putting a strait pipe on my car or a high flow cat. I also plan to get a fmic some time after I get my tax return so that and boosting say 8-9psi what am I looking at ballpark. I know every car is different but just looking for a general idea how effective a strait pipe is when you push low lbs of boost. Will I hear the turbo spooling alot louder too?

Not much power, but better throttle response and a little more power...but not that much. The straight pipe is effective at all boost settings high or low...it is needed more at higher levels more so then lower, but its effective at all levels. A 60mm TB is also a good upgrade for turbo apps as well.

I wouldn't go over 8psi even with a FMIC on stock BE. But from 5 to 8psi you will feel a nice jump in power.

A little louder maybe, but never really payed much attention to that aspect of it.

When I got the 3" dump and exhaust I could really hear the turbo at like 3K rpms up. It just whistled and sounded really sick. lol

HP is hard to guess but it will FEEL opened up for sure.

How effective is only going to be measured on a dyno and with data logging.

How do I get a dump tube done. Can I even do that with a internally wastegated turbo setup such as hahn. Just have them weld in a pipe off of my down pipe going to the atmosphere? Any other pointers on things to do. The engine will not be rebuilt for quite some time given my location and my current status its just not possible in the near future. So any performance upgrades to help out the turbo setup on a stock block is greatly appreciated along with incite on how these different mods have been for you.

I dont think he was talking about a wastegate. I believe what Blizare was refering to is a device that opens up your exhaust "at the flip of a switch" just before the cat. This has nothing to do with wether you have internal or external wastegate.

Well I plan to do a test pipe now my question is should I do a 2.5" or 3" I have a 2.5" downpipe up until the cat then I have the stock cat onto the 3" apexi n1.

When it comes to turbo cars, the larger is usually the better. The spool of the turbo comes from the pressure differential before and after the turbo. A larger exhaust enhances this pressure differential and thus the turbo spools quicker.

On a N/A car, the exhaust rule of thumb is not always bigger is better since it's based on velocity, not pressure differential. If you have a huge pipe, the velocity goes down and the low end power with it.

My suggestion is that you put as much 3 inch on your car as you can afford.

yea i hosted someones pics of their dump tube a while ago, let me see if i still have them, i forgot who's car this is but yea

Where did you get that dump tube blackmagic? I like that alot so you have what a high flow cat but the dump tube before the cat if you really want to open it up? I like that alot something for me to look into getting if you can hook me up with some info.

Most dump tubes are used in reference to Wastegates. What you are looking at in those pics is a QTP electronic cutout. QTEC.

Altough I have heard several horror stories with that company and their level of quality. There have been stories of those motors burning out rather quickly.

I'm about to order one of those. I also will be running a stock gs-t exhaust once i find one, then i'll sell my 3inch apexi. Did you get the 3inch MPP semperboost?

96rs-t if you sell your apexi n1 and get stock gst. Your egts will climb hella high if you ever decide to boost higher. I don't know I would like to boost more than just 5-8 daily and I like to boost so I wouldnt want an open pipe running all the time.

well, that's the thing with me. I agree with you, however, I'm a rare case of boosting daily. My boost guage never sees 1psi when i'm just driving (really). I only boost at the track, which is why this would fit me like a glove.
