92540, Problems with a used 14b? Posted by Stealthfox, Jan-04-06 07:15 AM
Looking to buy this 14b that came off a 4g63 (obviously) and heres a pic the guy sent me.
http://www.dodgubishi.com/gallery/v...G_1659.JPG.html
Here's the info: "I have one with light shaft play. No rubbing or smoking, boosted fine. Just pulled it a few days ago with the engine (getting a rebuild + larger turbo)$75 with O2 housing but no sensor. Housings are in great shape... or at least they were last time I had the turbo off around 10k miles ago. That is it as it sits in the garage. After I got the engine out I haven't touched it. I spent so long in the garage swapping the engine that the wife won't let me go out there right now ;) Miles unknown. I bought it used from a fellow member of 4g61t.org a few years ago. I put around 10k on it give or take. Most of those miles were in the gvr4.If you really need the O2 I'm sure we can work something out, but it is a DSM 4 wire style in there AND it is quite old."
Okay so I was wondering if there is anything I should be looking out for. I'm gonna be runnin 7-8psi, and I have all the other parts (FMU, injectors, etc.) except I think instead of my RHB5 I'll run a 14b. So I need to get the turbo, a log style manifold with a t3 flange, oil return kit and the MBC I just bought. Anyone have suggestions, concerns with this setup/turbo that looks kinda old??? Really wanted to know if I should go for it or not??

Your link doesnt work but you can ask him to send you a picture of the Wastegate flapper area. If there are ALOT of bad cracks then you might want to look around for another one or pick that one up, spray it with some spraypaint, and throw it on ebay for some profit lol. I bought a used 14b and it worked great just check out the exhaust ports, flapper, and it will have some shaft play most of them do but once you get oil in it the play will still go down ALITTLE due to the oil pressure.

Why a T3 flange?? Only the Hahn Super 16G/20G/25G use the T3 flange, the rest of the turbos such as the 14B/16G/Evo III 16G/etc use the mitsubishi flange. You will need a custom manifold to use a mitsu flanged turbo, or you could just use your stock manifold and run the 14B on that since the flanges almost line up and you can use two bolts to hold it together, or just weld it right on (rumor has it this will create clearance problems with the AC if your car is so equipped).
As far as the O2 sensor goes, I dunno if that O2 housing will fit.. can't recall exactly, but you will need to use our O2 sensor anyway since I don't think the 4G63 one is interchangeable with ours.

GRRRR! Okay yeah i get confused alot with the flanges and what they fit. You know originally i was going with my RHB5, but now I think I'm using the 14b.
I do have AC however so the stock mani might not work. Would I be better off buying a 420a exhaust flange and the mitsu flange and welding together a custom mani??? Also where would I get either flange???

Dunno. You'd have to ask someone that actually did it.

If you search for 14b in the Turbo Forum you'll see pictures of a 14b mated to the stock 2GNT exhuast manifold. maybe that will help you guage size and fitment.

Hey I know where you can buy parts for an exhaust maniforld and weld them together and also where you could go and get a flange right for the 14B turbo. So hit me up if you still want these parts. They are not to expensive either. I think I spent around 90 dollars for everything including the gasket. So let me know if you still need this stuff...
