92159, t3/t04e Water inlet and outlet thread size Posted by powellds, Dec-18-05 10:08 AM
Ok, I have a t3/t04e and I am trying to find out what thread size is for the female water lines to the turbo? I really don't feel like taking my turbo to the hardware store again. TIA.

Well, I'm out of town at the moment and kinda wanted to get what I need so I don't have to worry about it when I get home. Otherwise, I would have to wait until I got home to take the turbo back to the store, yada yada yada. I'm just trying to save some time, anyone? Please let me know.

This is a big bump, but I just went all over the place looking for this stuff, so I wanted to share and answer this question.
My turbo is a garrett t3/t4 hybrid. The actual T3 body is an old Nissan turbo bearing housing, which uses a 16mm x 1.5 thread size for banjo fittings on the water in/out.
The stock mitsubishi turbos use a 14mm x 1.25 and that I believe is the more common size.
Finding the banjos local was the biggest pain. I had to drive all over the place. Finally, I found that hydraulic supply places were the best.
The last thing I want to add about this is that I see a lot of pictures posted with water lines on turbos that DO NOT use banjo fittings. They are instead using pipe threads which seem to work and seal fine. I did it for some time, but now I want to clean up the engine bay and banjos are simply "cleaner". Furthermore, they are what belong in those holes, not pipe threads. I hope this helps many of you out in the future.
