9215, HRC Problems??? Posted by toykilla, Nov-11-01 01:24 PM
Whats with the HRC FPR??? I noticed that the FPR had "IN" and "OUT" signs on the bottom of it. I am guessing that is where your input of gas and outputs of gas should go?? Mine was backwards...WTF?? So I switched them around and put the HRC FPR back on my car to see if it fixed the problem it was having before. Did it?? HELL NO!!! It made it worse, now my idle fuel pressure wont stay anywhere near where I set it. Set at 55psi. Turn off car and back on and it goes to 90psi. I set it back at 55psi and took it out for a drive to see if it fixed my boosted fuel problems and did it?? HELL NO!!! As soon as I floor it, the car just goes completely lean and stops. Maybe its going completely rich. But all I know is its not right at all. Every since I got the HRC kit I have had problems with my car. I am honestly thinking about taking it off and sending it back to NOPI and ordering the Star stage II kit. You all talk about HRC and their awesome customer serive. BLAH..everytime I call they are away for a show and since Bill is the only person there thats not useless they have no customer serive. I understand the CEO of the company going to shows with "his" car but atleast have someone there that knows a little bit about the tech information.

LAST EDITED ON 11-Nov-01 AT 08:44 PM (PST)You say "lean," but what does your fuel pressure guage say?
I'm really confused how the FPG can be set up so high as to 90 psi. Are you talking about boosted fuel pressure? (I'm just making sure you know the difference between idle and boosted FP) If it is idle FP, I recommend trying to tighten down that nut as best you can, and then possibly doing that rebuild of the FPR as some people on the board have mentioned about.
Next, have you disconnected the fuel mapper yet? If you still have it connected, you're going to be lean no matter what. Mine was lean until I had disconnected it and received a new one.
Lastly, where is your A/F meter grounded at? Hopefully at a ECU ground bolt location. Do you have an EGT guage?
Keep us updated. Even Bill had announced to us that he was going to these shows prior to him leaving. More times than not he's able to answer your phone calls, so just b/c he's not there to tech support your problems right now at this moment as they occur may be a bit rash.
Why did you disconnect your newly bought Aeromotive FPR? Was it now adjustable or what? do you have a link describing that FPR? Maybe I can tell you whether or not it was suitable to your needs.

Well, The Aeromotive says in the ad that it has vaccum for boosted operation but it doesnt seem to work. Although it does work at 5psi. I want 9psi, I didnt spend an extra grand to get 5psi. let me look for the link to them

http://www.aeromotiveinc.com/products/inject_reg.shtml Thats the link to the fuel pressure regulater I bought. It says ideal for boosted engines. Today my map sensor volts were 4.6 so I guess thats not the problem. And I had the idle FP set to 90 for a little bit to see if that helps. It did. But I put it back down to 55 where it should be at idle. It works fine as I said with 5psi but I want 9psi. Maybe I have a broken connection at my stock fuel pump and its not working. I know the Accel fuel pump that came with the HRC kit is working because its loud as hell but quieted down a lot when I put the Aeromotive FPR on. Tell me what you think about the FPR. I have the first one on the page. And its adjustable from 30-90psi idle pressure. Not 70 like it says.

IT looks generally like a nice piece, but the problem I see is it's boosted adjustability.
The thing with our turbosystems is that we have a pretty freaky need for a high boosted FP ratio. That means, under boost, we need something like ~7:1 ratio for under boost with stock injectors. That FPR says nothing for adjustability or a preset ratio for under boost. Sure, it says it can be used for boosted applications, but that just might mean 1:1 ratio like a lot of stock turbo cars. That would mean you're WAY too lean under boost. You'll probably need like 550cc injectors to get this baby to work w/o going lean.
I'd get that Bell/Cartech/HRC FPR back in there and turn the brass knob all the way in, and out one full turn, and check your FP under max boost. Watch your map sensor voltage, and lastly, get your A/F meter grounded at an ECU location. As long as your voltage is fine, and your FP is at 110-120 or so under 8-9 psi of boost, you'll be fine.
Just watch your gauges. That HRC FPR may be somewhat erratic at initial startup, but it's always pretty reliable under boost, and is always 60 psi at startup (cold) and 55 psi once running for me. Is you FPG on the IN side? May sound strange, but that's the side it goes on.

Jason, does your fuel pressure gauge needle jump like crazy or is it stationary where you can tell exactly what FP your at? at idle mine jumps
