Sweet!!! My black wrap just came in actually w/ plans to do that also! I hope it comes out good like that, I've seen some realy 1/2 a** sh*t jobs. I've got the standard log mani, so it'll prob be harder w/ tight spaces inbetween.

Looks for good for wrap. Did you ever find out if your hood fit, or figure out a way to make it fit, or did I not read enough on the post you made a while ago about your setup?

it looked so good without the wrap tho . do you have that much of a problem with heat ?

I will try and answer everyones questions in one post. I wrapped the manifold because of the radiator hose and turbo cooling line being so close. (I didnt want to take the chance of anything melting. The hood does close but it hits ever so slightly. I will definatly need to replace it with the wrap on there now.(probably and EVO hood) I am holding off on the down pipe until I decide if I am going to put a mufler on it or not. Thanks for the feedback I really apprecieat it. I am trying to do everything right with this car and take no shortcuts. As for the avatar the size was a bit on the large side although it was much fun to watch.

Are you not concerned with moisture being trapped under the wrapping? Why not use a coating instead? Coatings work wonders and you don't have to worry about moisture.

I am inclined to agree with Doug on this one. I've never really liked the idea of exhaust wrap. I've heard some bad stories about it. You never have to worry with a coating however, and I believe it would be more efficient. Not to mention it will look hella better.

No I am not worried about moisture everything is stainless steel. it isnt going to rust. plus at 1500* what ever moisture that is in the manifold wrap sure isnt going to be there long. I havent heard any stories about wrap being bad. However I would love to hear... Also do you really think a ceramic coating would be more efficent?

Stainless steel will corrode with with moisture and heat.

Heat will increase the rate of corrosion.

Yes. However, a simple and effective way to control heat is to use a heat sheild. Very simple and cheap, but works extemely well. It should be pretty easy to fab one up for your header design.

Thanks for the information guys I was in the dark on that one. Maybe it will be comming off the manifold... My main concern was to protect my radiator hose and turbo cooling line. Looks liek I might need to come up with a different way.

You could always wrap those with the exhaust wrap. I think they sell it in smaller sizes :shrug

What I ended up doing after asking and getting no real response,was not to risk it.

I am just keeping the heatshields that are on the turbo and maifold. The insulation used on the ac lines and such will stay there and hope for the best. If it can take 2200 from boilers It can take it from the engine.

I have been toying with the idea of a a manifold sandwich. For example Use the existing manifold, make one that is slightly larger and sanwich the wrap material in between, rivet together. That way if there is anything corroded it will be your 10 dollar manifold. Make sense to anyone?
