91215, Finishing up install, final questions Posted by DarkEclips96, Nov-07-05 02:03 PM
Ok so I have everything done, just need to hook up oil pressure gauge, just have some questions..
I have exhaust wrap on the downpipe, when I drive I notice it is smoking like crazy afterward. Im just going to pull it off by why is it smoking so bad?
I noticed I was low on coolent so I filled it, after like 15 minutes of driving,it was almost empty again, I dont seem to have any leaks when the car is sitting, not sure...
Would turbo leaks only allow me to see like 2 lbs of boost, thats all I can seem to get right now.
Boy tho, a hated my muffler, now I love it lol. The turbo spooling up plus the bov, its awsome, now i just need some power to back it up. But those 2 lbs did feel good. I will make another post with pictures when everything is fixed and running right.

The wrap will smoke for awhile until the coating burns off of it, atleast mine did.
2psi, Check for boost leaks, I am sure you have one.

Here is the wrap, it doesnt look like other exhaust wraps out there, thats why I was wondering..
I will have to make a boost leak tester and try this weekend.
Any ideas about loosing coolent?

Looks normal...could the exhaust wrap rubbing something like the crossmember cause it too smoke. Or having a clamp on the exhaust wrap?

i also just finnished up my turbo install, all i have left to do is secure my intercooler better and re run my vac lines cause i used fish tank hose and im not satisfied with it, although i have not felt the boost yet i did crank her up and get 8lbs of boost to register on my gauge in neutral reving the engine up. i have the Hahn back bone with the 6-10 psi actuator, im using hahn ic piping with a 2g smic custom install. i would have to say if your only getting 2psi and your sure its not a waste gate issue than you must definatly have a leak somewhere. i still cant wait to feel the boost but work is so crazy right now its not allowing me time to mess with it. i envy you and your 2psi right now. keep us posted joe

:scratch
That's surprising. Most of the time you need to load the engine to build that much boost.

HMMMM. Hope that doesnt mean something is wrong?? my turbo is internally gated at 10psi. anyone else able to build boost by reving engine without load? am i missing something here? im going to take it for its first ride tommorrow and wanna make sure i dont pop anything. Could be a bad gauge but when i rev up to about 5500-6000 rpm the gauge jumps up to about 8 psi?? is this wrong?? Thanx joe

Yea i always thought people only saw small amounts of boost if any in neutral cause of no load.. I would keep a close eye on the boost gauge tomorrow when you test run it.

the most you can possibly rev is like 1 psi

There's many factors involved in that. It's highly possible there's nothing wrong. If its okay when you drive it, don't worry about it. Consider it a launch benefit.
