91054, rebuild success.

well the rebuild was a success. it wasn't too much of a pain in the ass. the shortblock was assembled by the machine and everything else was done by myself.

I ended up messing up the crank sprocket a little.. well, alot. I couldn't find a socket big enough to hammer it on with, so i figured i'd just hammer the sprocket. well i took a few chunks out of the lip of it. I was worried about it tearing the belt up at first, but its fine, not even coming touching the belt at all. I'm going to keep an eye on it.

It started on the first crank. I couldn't believe it. I was having problems adjusting the SFMU down to 20psi for the 440's but it ended up being the goddamn boost screw was out like 6 turns.

All I have left to do is get the front motor mount bolted up (why it's not done already i dont know) and put one bolt in the rear motor mount bracket.

The damn oil sending unit is leaking oil like a bitch, but other than that it's leak free.

Here's the list of parts i used:

JE 8.6:1 .020 Pistons/Rings
Eagle Rods
Clevite main/rod bearings
arp main/head studs
melling oil pump
napa water pump
new tb tensioner
new tb tensioner pulley (idler was already new, so was belt)
Felpro mls head gasket, gasket sets

Motor feels real stong. Sounds GREAT with the hahn 3" downpipe, 3" test pipe, and thermal r&d 3" cat-back.

Total time it took:
4 hours to pull motor
30 minutes to break down for machine shop
1 week for machine shop to do its thing (bore, hone, deck, balance, assemble)
1 day to get motor into engine bay
3-4 hours yesterday finishing it up pretty much.

I was scared to do it at first, but it wasnt a big deal. I plan to push ~14-15 psi once broken in. Sorry for the long post. Thanks dino, sike for the couple of questions i had along the way.

Feels good Huh?

It'll feel even better once it's broken in and you have good compression #'s.

Go drive that bitch. :thumbsup

EDIT: Why didn't you just ditch the idiot light sending unit and just run the turbo oil feed from there by itself?

That's a good idea, i just might have to do that. I'll have to pull the bulb though, the orange cel i can stand, but the red oil pressure light will annoy the piss out of me. plus, isn't that half-way useful???

Without the sender, the oil light will never come on, and neither will the CEL.

Yea the light won't come on for a CEL cause the ecu doesn't monitor that sensor. And the red light your talking about would only come on when you have 1 L of oil in there........how helpful is that? :P

Yea and I've had mine like that and no issues.

I've had mine like this for two months with no problems now. Plus, I don't have the crossmember with the front motor mount, and thats been going for two months with no problems now too, although it gives some weird steering deflections when you speed up or gear down to engine brake... I'll put mine in as soon as I get my car up on jacks and can find the bolts.

Thats awesome. Congratulations. Now go break that engine in so you can really drive it!

Good work. Just a tip for the oil sending unit or anything like a feed line, ect, that you cant keep from leaking: Use Ultra Black RTV on the threads. I got fed up with small leaks in that area using teflon paste, but then i used the RTV on the threads, and bam, never a leak since..

Cool Ima try that when I put my sending unit and oil feedline back on tomorrow.

Also, great job on the rebuild. I should be attempting to start mine this weekend... I hope it goes as well as yours did! wish me luck, I think I will need it... (I did the full assembly shortblock and all :whoa )
