90906, Sleeves for upper rad hoses that aren't ugly
Posted by BumpinTalon, Oct-27-05 10:07 AM
My upper rad hose has lately made some huge gains in size... the thing is really mushy now and it is gettin quite large, she's gonna blow any day now.. so I wanted to replace it with a new one and put a sleeve over it to protect it. The Hahn sleeve is outrageously ugly. Anybody know where to get the sleeves that cover the hoses on a Dodge Stealth RT Twin Turbo? It looks sort of like black braided stainless steel, looks outrageously good.. and if it can withstand the heat of that engine bay in that tight space, I think it will work just fine on our car as well.

they are soooooo much money tho... plus I am tryin to keep everything low key, the only silver or shiny parts in my whole engine bay will be the lettering on the valve cover, the compressor side of my turbo, my BOV and charge pipes..

You can get high-temp OBX radiator hoses from either Concept Illusions or eBay for ~$55. I'm also gonna wrap the upper in DEI Heat Wrap (not done yet) as boxsom said.

P.S.
The hoses are a PIA to get on, very tight

really? I was looking for one of those, my buddy just got one on his turbo accord and it looks wicked and durable so I thought something similar might work for me.

I'm not quite sure why this has happened to you, maybe another problem? I've not heard anything but good about them in my searches which is why I got them. Also, when I compare them to OEM hoses, it's far superior. I haven't got any huge braided hoses to compare them to, but I'm very happy w/ them.

Braided vs OBX is personal preference IMO,
Will be fine w/ either...

I had one of those steelbraided covers and the ends get all freyed and nasty and the steel seperates and looks like ass...at least it did on mine. Some may have good luck with them...unfortunately I did not!

Anyone make rad hoses in a durable red material?

where did you get that cover? I think I'll run one and use silicone couplers to hold my rad hose on instead of the usual compression clamps, and tuck the cover into the coupler so that the ends are not showing and won't fray.
