Hey, when is the plastic overflow tank used in the cooling system? Does it only use it if the cooling system gets low? Would it be feasable to remove this since I am daily driving the car? I check fluid levels religously, so I am always of my operating conditions...

Too much clutter! The AC system is gone, evap system is gone, egr system is gone, windshield wiper fluid container is gone, and hopefully I can straighten up all the wiring and get this engine actaully looking respectable. Cant wait till the powdercoated parts are ready to pickup, and I am painting a mitsu diamong logo on the FMIC as we speak, so I'll post a pic of the finished product when its done in a few hrs.

Your engine regularly sucks fluid out of the overflow container and then puts it back in. I believe that the engine spits coolant into the overflow as it warms up and sucks the coolant back into the system as it cools. I think it would be adviseable to keep your overflow container, just to be certain that you always have enough coolant. If you want a cleaner look, you might paint the container.

That's the same conclusion I came to. It took me most of the day, but I got the fuse box cover, overflow tank, ecu case, throttle cable assembly box thing, pretty much everything plastic or even metal got painted today. And I took out that big windshield wiper fluid container and bought a small quart sized one and painted it also along with painting the diamond logo in the center of the intercooler.. I cleaned everything first throughly. Then I sanded with 400 grit real good and then went over it with 1000 grit to smooth things up more, then I sprayed several thin coats of primer, then several layers or paint, then several layers of clear coat. Looks real good. I am gonna give everything another 24 hrs to properly cure completely, then I'll start re-installing everything and go pick up the powdercoated stuff and reinstall it also.. I'm excited to compare the before and after of my last tear down.

In all of 20 minutes you would be overheating and/or low on coolant. Like Corbin said that fluid in there looking like its doing nothing gets sucked right back into the engine, when it doesn't you overheat and have inadequate coolant (I know cause mine was leaking at the bottom). Not only that there's a sensor attached to the bottom of it. Mine leaked but I didn't have an overheating problem until I put the turbo on. From the 1rst day I put it on I was overheating except for amount of time before the coolant would leak out the overflow tank. Got a new one a few days later and problem solved.
