Just wondering if everyone with an auto-turboed-na can share some of their quarter-mile times- follow-up with their mods...if no 1/4 mile times then hp/tq specs would be appreciated, thanks!

soulcontroller ran a 13.7 with a Hahn Racecraft kit... I think it was Stage III, it might be Stage II, I cannot say for sure. He had a high stall (I think it was 2700rpm) convertor, a shift kit, a tranny cooler, and some other mods (final drive mod maybe).

I was racing a nonturbo MTX with basic boltons.
Auto's are slow.

Wow, 13.7! That's pretty inspirational for autos...and yeah autos are slow...I'm looking for reasons to keep my car, lol. So much work in it and still it runs like a piece of crap. I'm not too confident with the tranny swap too...so...please, more times plz! hehe :thumbsup

I think pr0 said he ran a 14.5 at 8psi (with no intercooler) on a built bottom end, with a stock tranny, at high elevation, which is around a 14.3 at sea level. not entirely sure tho.

Originally posted by bokchoi I'm not too confident with the tranny swap Get confident in it. Or dump a lot of money into your ATX. 14.5 @ 94mph = ~194whp 13.7 @ 100mph = ~230whp Those are not impressive numbers IMO. Especially considering those cars are making 260-300hp at the crank.
Jamesman and I used to have nearly identical setups, both of us at 18psi on a S16G and built engines. He had a FMIC & 5-speed, I had a SMIC & ATX. He would walk me like I was standing still.

16.00 @ 100mph w/o altitude correction. Think its about a 1/2 sec less with alt.
this was on a blown hg, cracked ringlands in 2&3 cyl and 4psi with an exhast leak.
STAR kit though,

But you sure you were not hauling: Bike, Full tool kit, power tools, Big ass air compressor heavy duty cherry picker porno videos?
Don't forget Jamesman is TUNED, big intake, big DP, big exhaust.

That seems really slow even for an ATX car.

lol yeah, atx does suck...I'm on a tight budget right now and cant afford the swap. I was just planning on slapping a torque converter and tranny cooler on there and just leave the tranny part as that. BUt yeah, I was only looking to hit 13s anyways
|
90756, RE: For Turbo charged Auto 2gnts... Posted by EclipseTenzoR, Oct-19-05 10:43 AM
You can hit 13s but your going to have to build your auto. I was all about building my auto but now that I see how much of a pain in the ass it is at the track it really frustrates me. In the long end I will probably brake something on the car with power breaking and shifting the auto. Trust me though you'll be into some serious dissapointment if you turbo your car then take it to the track becuase the car can be anywhere from 1.5-2 seconds faster just by having a manual when you are boosted. Think I may be giving my car to concept illusions when I return from boot camp. I want the whole motor overhauled and the tranny swapped out if they can give me a good deal

Seriously, you guys are a little biased. You all bitch about your AT but never tried to make them any better. Anyone do the final drive mod and see how much it helped? Shift kit?
Sure you are going to be a little faster with the MT. Duh, it's geared differently, it's lighter, and there is less loss through the driveline. Shocker! If you knew what you are doing I doubt it'd be 1.5-2 seconds. Probably closer along the lines of .5 or less.
Just for the record Matt Deimos' time was 13.8 @ 106 in his AT RS at the 2k4 shootout. He ran faster than I did that day (14.0 @ 105) and we had similar mods (s20g @ 15psi). His car also drove home, mine didn't.
Also, its not like those of us over 300whp are running run of the mill stock MTs either. We're all sitting with LSDs, race axles, short shifters, heavy duty clutches, and 3.55 transmissions. If you were an AT at that point you should have a shift kit, final drive mod, trans cooler, LSD, higher stall TQ converter, and axles. It'd probably be about the same in the end cost wise.
Anyways, my point is don't go auto bashing. Sure your car will be slower than a MT but not by 1.5-2 seconds. Remember that if you're sitting in a 5spd you still have to launch worth a damn. Those good 60' times are hard to get. It's pretty easy to get off the line in an AT. In my opinion, the only and BEST reason to get/swap in a 5spd is because you like the feel of it. Shifting through gears, feeling in control of the car. Oh, and if you like AutoX it's kinda nice to have.

heh i havent seen this thread yet.
my auto 'feels' slower than it really is i think. i was pleased with my times at the shootout, considering when i bought the car it ran an 18.5 second quarter mile.
i dont have an LSD, upgraded axles or kevlar clutches... i do have a shift kit, final drive, trans cooler, 2800 stall converter, and um i think thats it?
i think what you lose with an atx is the control in every day driving. i do enjoy jamming through the gears in my 5 speed, i dont get that with my RS. controlling gears through corners, etc.
what i gain with the auto though is consitency. of all the runs ive made with my car in its current state, ive gotten a 2.4 60' every time. granted its only about 6 runs total, getting the same 60' every time shocked me.
my trans has been boosted on 15 lbs for the past 2 years now, and its holding up great. i dont have any problems with it whatsoever. the car only has 40k miles on it, but still, it takes a fair amount of abuse, so i really cant complain.
* oh yea thura its DEMOS :o

its great to hear that your car is still good,up and running for that long, soulcontroller. I'm always under the impression that our motors wont last that long under boost; especially when you mentioned "abuse," to the vehicle, lol. Where did you get your 2800 high stall TC from?

Avenger what was your motivation to do the ATX to MTX swap? I would like to keep the auto just because I am lazy, but at times I like the 5 speed because I love feeling the car through all the gears. It is alot more fun and you feel the power throughout

Motivation. Well at the time when I did the swap, there wasn't much available in terms of upgrades for the AT ... at least not that I knew. So I went 5spd. I don't regret it in the slightest. Like Matt said, what you really gain is control and a little bit of power. What you lose is consistancy but that is something that can be gained back with practice.
Personal preference. Decide what you want your car to be. Also, keep in mind that sitting in traffic with a heavy clutch is no fun ... lol.

Yeah, I live in the big city (sf) so I go through a lot of traffic all the time. The only times where its isolated enough for me to drive faster is at midnite but of course that means more popo's... :squint

Question for Matt and Thura: Were you guys running on slicks for those times?
