90572, Port Fueler install...yes I searched

Ok, I searched and still couldn't find the answers to my questions.

First off, how long, on average, did it take for everyone to install their setup? I'm going to be using the Portfueler hardware, but using the 034EIC to tune/control the injectors. With my work schedule, I don't get 2 days off in a row, and I HATE leaving a project unfinished. My main concerns lie with removing/reinstalling the intake manifold (what's the easiest way? From the top or from underneath?) and blocking off the EGR (anyone got some block-off plates that want to make/sell me?) I think I can wire up the 034EIC fairly easily, but I've got one more questions. I'm going to be using the stock wiring harness for the secondary injectors. I noticed there were...what was it...3 or 4 wires coming out of it (I'll be cutting off the connector, but wanted to keep the wire loom to keep things neat) and I just need to know which wires go to which injectors and what each color stood for. Hopefully I'll be installing this in the next few weeks and I just want to have everything there to look over. If anyone has pictures of the removal/installation of the manifold, it'd be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Jeremy

P.S. - When I do eventually get to installing the setup, anyone care to come down to Lynchburg, VA to give me a hand? Free beer and food will be provided, and if it needs to be a 2 day install, a place for you to sleep.

There should be 5 wires. One common ground (the fat one, black I think) and 4 smaller multi colored ones, (one for each injector). You should be able to tell what color(s) they are at the injector plug w/o screwing up the loom or anything to much. Just put 1 & 3 together and 2 & 4. You could wire up the harness in an evening...might save you some time when you the big install. Just make sure you know were your are going to place the unit and that you leave yourself enough slack. That's what I would do anyway. :thumbsup

I have that schematic, but I think you helped me with the wiring...thanks! I just ordered an EGT block-off kit from CI (said it should be here by Saturday) so that can go on now.

Ok, you said it takes about a day to remove the intake manifold....it's THAT intensive? Anyone have a write-up on how they did it and/or pictures or the removal?

I hope you mean EGR and not EGT.

Also, the intake manifold should take you maybe 2-3 hours tops. It's not that hard. I can basically do it with my eyes closed completely drunk.

Here's a step by step.
1. Unplug all sensors and hoses from manifold, disconnect intake
2. Disconnect throttle cable
3. Disconnect fuel feed line (if you're taking the rail off with the manifold)
4. Unbolt manifold from head ... kinda easier to do it from under the car ... at least for me.

I figured that since I'm using the Portfueler setup I'll just leave the stock rail on the manifold and pull the whole thing out. I gotta swap it out anyway so I can get the 30lb injectors out of there and move them to the secondary rail, but that'll be WAY easier to do with the manifold out of the car.

And yeah, I meant EGR, not EGT..oops! LOL

How many bolts hold the mainfold to the head? 8? Are there any support brackets that need to be removed? Basically, does anyone have a Haynes/Chilton's description and/or service manual directions to remove the manifold? I'm just gonna be running short on time so I want to do it the most efficient way.

bolts from intake mani to head
-across the top they are above each runner
-acros the bottem they are between each runner
each bolt is a little different to get to just use your best judgement and dont be afraid to go from underneath

2 braces reach from the block to the intake mani,
if you have cruise there is a vacuum box mounted right on top of these brackets that must come out. concetrate on the upper bracket bolts as they are all you need to remove. (if you have cruise there is one lower bolt used for mounting that stupid box)

good luck

I'm a novice listen to what I say and make your own conclusion. If I'm wrong tell me and I will learn.

nice advice hs, was just about to say something about the cruise and the brackets.

no It shold not take all day. It should take 3 hours TOPS. But if your new and scared about it and will come back here and search for an hour everytime you wuss out , then yes all day.

Most are bolts, 2 are studs with nuts on them, so thats pretty much it. You will need some deep sockets or wrenches.

other then that and new gaskets, your set.
