89878, Star manifold turbo match. Posted by powellds, Sep-22-05 12:03 AM
Hey, I am fairly new to the turbo world, and I just had a few questions. I am getting a Star manifold and I was wondering what turbo's would bolt up to it, does it have to have the t3 or the t4 exhaust side? Also, what would be the ideal turbo to get for 10-15 psi that would fit the Star manifold, I know the one in the Star kit is a t3/t04b, would a t3/t04e or a t3/t4 be better? I am trying to find which turbo to go with, so if you all could help me out, that would be great. TIA. ~Jeffo

I'm sure I can find the answers in the search, but I can't find a clear answer on this one, maybe I missed it. What would be the ideal turbo to put on the star manifold for 10-15psi? If I did miss it, sorry for the wasted posts. One more thing, on the star downpipe, how many bolt holes are there, where the turbo bolts up to it? Thanks. ~Jeffo

how many bolts on the dp depends on what turbo you decide to run!. some are different. some do not use bolts at all and use a v-band clamp to keep it together

i think i'm goin with a garret gt3071r (BB turbo) to go with a star mani. it's got a t3 inlet but a 4 bolt outlet so it won't bolt up to a regular star downpipe. i'm plannin on getting a v-band adapter and having a custom DP made anyways though. i just like how beefy the star mani is. :)

Back to your original question. It depends on if you want a quick spooling turbo or one with high power potential. Both the t04e and t04b are under the t3/t4 class of turbos. These are decent sized turbos but the t04e is more efficient than the t04b. If you want faster spool go with the t3. All these turbos can go with the star manifold.

if you want to boost 10 to 15 psi I hope you have a built bottom end. Our cars really only like around 8-9psi on the stock rods and pistons. Between 10-15psi I would recommend a T3/T4 with a .48ar turbine side and one of the smaller T04E compressors.
