89711, CTS Replaced & SHE RUNS!

I got a new Coolant Temp Sensor yesterday, replaced it today and she runs! The car idles really good now, and no more stalling.

I no longer have the high voltage code for the MAP anymore as well.

I do notice though, for some reason, my car is running super rich again. I now have a code for bank 1 too rich and my wbo2 gauge, I am getting 12.1-12.4 which is pretty freakin rich for an idle.

My idle FP is at 16psi, I have tried higher and lower too and I am not really getting anything better. I also tried leaning out on the AFC -16% and the a/f barely changed.

Any idea's of why I am running so rich now? Could it actually be the MAP or something? Like I said before, the MAP did get acid rain on it before and I dont know if that would mess with it or cause it to fail, but it seems so weird now that its running so rich and it wont change...

So, good thing it idles, I havent gotten to drive it yet though cuz the rainy weather, but any idea's on anything to try to fix the richness....?

Credit to deej for the idea!

Good to hear......your richness is your injectors...too big

I am back with the 440's Terry, and before I was getting a near perfect a/f at 14.7 wbo2 at idle.

That's great! I've been tracking your progress as I'm having similar idle issues, I just have 1x question... if your coolant temp is displaying properly in the dash from the ecu, how could it be faulty? Or is the ecu just not as sensitive in relaying what it sees as the temp (ie. temporary drops in voltage)?

Unfortunately, I was too busy today tearing through Dave's interior paneling & tracking his many wires to get to my list of things to check for the idle. Looks like he pulled the EGT wires back through the firewall (was hoping for a quick read on the new gauge).

Standing Q:
Any idea of impact of exhaust manifold leak on idle?

Interesting...
Added on my list to check & replace...

There are 2 coolant sensors.
The upper bigger one is the one that sends the signal to the ECU.
The lower smaller your speaking of sends the signal to the gauge cluster to show how hott your car is running.
I replaced the upper one. I never had a code for it, but basically what it was probably doing was sending a bad signal to the ECU telling it that my engine was super cold, therefor the MAP was dumping in extra fuel and just fucking up the idle.

What a good $14 fix !

Oh, really? HMmmmmmmmmmm, my understanding was that the small 1x was a hardwired fan switch (not through ECU) & that the large 1x went 2 the ECU which was where your readings come from. I didn't know that.

The last time I replaced those 2x sensors was on my '99... didn't know the threads were the American whatever (growing in size) & had 2 buy a 2nd ceramic housing cuz I broke my original in 1/2. Felt like an idiot, never seen that before. I think I bought the sensors from satan, the small was ~$15 & the large was ~$35+ I thought. Then again, that's not Xactly AutoZone either.

Have had a very unproductive weekend w/ the idle... been tearing up interior panelling & switching toys over from '99. Will prob drive '99 all this week for safety (unsure of EGT bung, see post in other thread).

Xcellent, thanx for the correction!

You know, I think I'm not gonna delay & go ahead & get the high temp silicone from Custom Illusions or whatever for the radiator hoses (~$65). Will knock out that & the sensor @ the same time.
