Just wondering about how much blow-by you other turbo guys are getting?? I have a HRC Stage 2 kit where the breather hose connects to the K&N filter. 3 days ago I bought a smaller K&N style filter and mounted it underneath the ic piping and attached the breather hose to it to keep that oil out of the turbo compressor. Today I reached down and felt the underside of the filter and it was covered in oil (not a crazy amount, but enough to coat 3 fingers). Is that amount of blow-by normal???

Also, I was thinking about the valve cover breather for us turbo guys... Since the kit comes with the breather hose connected to the air filter, wouldnt that compressor create more vacuum that originally intended? I was wondering if that could possibly be robbing the valves of needed oil. Thats why I used a K&N style filter on the end of the breather instead of just adding a catch can. Anyone else have a more educated insite to this than I do???

I had the same problem with the oil coming out the air filter. It is "normal" blow-by. Get a catch can with a filter on top (49 dollars from RRE). It will take care of the problem.

When I had that amount of oil coming out of my filter, I had just taken an onramp to a highway at 80mph. The long sweeping right hand turn helped push the oil out of the engine.

Do I really need a catch can... Its not like its draining enough oil to be dangerous. I could care less if a few drips here and there are dumped out onto the road... besides I wouldnt put that oil back in my car anyway.

The thing I really wanna get at though is if anyone has any info as to whether or not that added vacuum from the turbo compressor is sucking out a little too much oil. Is it possible that the valves could be slightly starved compared to being NA??? hmmm...

haha do you really need it? No you don't but its a bitch cleaning up your engine bay when oil explodes out of that sucka. Happened to me on my first autox, I learned my lesson. :)

I really need one :-) I raced agst last night and after i beat him :-) he pulled up next to me at the next light and asked if my car was going to blow up, cause i had about a quart of oil blow out and was all over the engine and dripping on the exhaust pipe and being sucked in thru the pvc and being burned in the engine. There was so mush smoke!!

The reason I got the catch can is because I was tired of having a ton of oil on my air filter. Plus with all that oil dripping down from the air filter onto the road, you could slip in your own oil and slide off the road. (I managed to do this...was not fun.)

That oil problem only happened to me once. It hasn't been a problem since. In fact, I've had zero blow-by since early summer.
That is the other good part about the catch can....you can see exactly how much oil you are blowing out your breather.
