89179, NEED SERIOUS HELP... Radiotor hose blew off, radiator plastic brittled away... Now OVERHEATING Posted by jsupetran, Sep-03-05 11:47 AM
Okay so it's memorial day and I'm supposed to be driving home but my upper radiator hose blew. I reattached it, but a small portion brittled away and fell off of the upper radiator pipe, presumably into the radiator. Then, I reattached the upper pipe and now ever since I am fucking over heating within 3 mins.
*Now, what can the problem be? The radiator pipe is clear of debris...
**Can the thermostat die if it runs without water?
***I am almost stumped with this problem so any help is greatly appreciated.

You could take a vaccumm and try to suck the piece out. You might have a leak where the piece broke off and coolant/ steam might be escaping. I'd let the car warm up and pop the hood to see if you're leaking somewhere.

I'm gonna try and get it flushed. I am now thinking that since the radiator pipe was exposed to the air, then air might have gotten in their. I'm mean, everything was running perfectly except this big ass mishap.
A new radiator might also be in the future too since a huge chunk is now missing in the upper radiator connection pipe.

you should start your car and have your rad cap open... fill it all the way up and see if it starts to drain. when it does, just keep filling it up and wait till it starts to get really hot. hopefully what will happen is your thermo will open and will drain completely, ruling that problem out, its probably best if you get a pressure tester to see if there are any leaks within you cooling system. seeing as that you did say you broke off a piece of your rad by the upper pipe

Yeah!!! It's ALIVE! I just filled it and let the car run with the cap open, then filled it some more.
Just a note to all HAHN and turbo owners in general, your upper radiator could very well deteriorate like mine...

You could always get one of those radiatorbarn replacements, they are all metal and just a little over $100 brand new shipped, when my stock junk yard one springs a leak from rust (from sitting beat up for who know's how long) I'm going to get one of theirs.

thats good you got the car running. i used to have overheating issues, until i figured out that i was losing coolant somehow and somewhere. i could never trace it, but soon after i filled up the cap and ran it open, she stays cool like a champ, only thing that sux about this is, i gotta do this about every 2-3 weeks or so and i use about 1/2 a liter of water/coolant evrytime!
