Sorry if this is a dumb question but I was just curious.
Does anyone make a sealed turbo with its own oil supply?
I know a lot of superchargers do this, I worked on a V-8 jeep today that had a centrifugal blower with its own oil (it was pretty quick to I might add) and was wondering why you couldn't do this with a turbo?

the only ones I know of are the turbo kits made for BMW 3 series. Would be kinda cool not having to worry about oil lines.

i see alot more oil lines and parts, money involved in doing this.

The sealed superchargers I see are a contained unit meaning they are sealed with their own oil inside, so basicly you'd have a turbo hanging on your exhaust mani with nothing but a down pipe and a intake pipe coming out of it. So really you would'nt need a turbo timer or any extra lines. I was thinking about it today though and youd have to have some way of easily changing the oil as the heat from your exhaust gases would probably break down the oil pretty quickly so I guess I answered my own question.

That, and superchargers don't spin anywhere near as fast as a turbo, even if it is centrifugal.

ya, the oil needs to flow out the turbo to cool off

Aerochargers are sealed turbo's, but the real cool thing about them is the variable vane turbine wheel, meaning it's always the perfect size turbo at every RPM.... sweeet, oh yeah, wastegate not needed, because there is never any wasted gas.

someone told me they don't make them anymore because they blew up...


but yea that oils gotta be cooled, unless it had its own little oil cooling system, that would be interesting, but then that kinda ruins the point of sealing it doesn't it, because it would still have to circulate, so basically don't listen to anything i just said...

yeah, VATN aerochargers liked to splode, and dont exist anymore. something about idiots using MBCs causing problems....
