ok, so i turned my fuel pressure up today to around 18 psi at idle from about 13-14 maybe lower? (440s, SFMU largest disc), and made no other changes to my car, and it drives soooooo much better. all of this at about 15 lbs of boost. i really cant explain why it makes such a difference in the drivability...

of course its pretty damn rich up top, but i get no audible detonation anymore, my egts stay super low, everything just feels better. im sure its not making quite as much power from all the extra gas, but im not as worried about blowing something up like i usually am when im bashing on my car on the expessway haha.

anyone else have similar experiences?

off topic, but i was just wondering how many lbs of boost were you runnin when you got that 13.8, just kinda curious what it takes to get into the 13s

I run rich everywhere Matt. At least according to my wideband. 11:1 or richer once I hit the powerband. Driveability is good and still makes plenty of power.

My car also likes to run on the rich side, even at idle. With the rich A/F ratio it runs smoother and idles better.

my car runs so rich to a point where it'll cause backfire when I stomp on it sometimes.

Well, maybe if we had some good detonation control built into the head (quench pads, etc), we would be able to run a bit leaner without knocking. I think that a good piston design could have the same effect, too.

Agreed. Stock pistons at least have enough quench area to match the head with the dome running laterally across the piston while most aftermarket sets have nothing.

Bill, you and I should get together and design a low compression piston with quench to match the head.

I just want to throw this into the table here. I'm not good if not have a bit of knowledge on quench pads, detonation control and anything related, my question is does the JE piston (8.5:1) from the catalog good enough to control detonation?

yea.. i'd like to know as well... I'm a 15 lbs with an auto and the auto is killing my off the line acceleration.

i completely agree, running rich makes my car feel a hell of a lot better

i think the higher idle pressure affects the spray pattern of the injectors a little, and thats why it feels so much smoother.

what are you tuning with?

Now we all know that neutral dropping is the best way to improve off the line acceleration in an auto :D
soulcontroller has got a shift kit and the final drive mod, a tranny cooler too I believe.

I was thinking of running meth to lower my egt's and boost up the octain to avoid the lag from the extra fuel, how much slower is it?

yea ive got all the trans mods and a 2800 stall converter, but no LSD. i can still only manage to cut 2.4 60's. decent i suppose.

im going to bash on it at the track one more time and see what times i can come up with before i swap it out.

your going to swap to a manual tranny? I may be interested in your parts if you are swapping. let me know. thanks.
