my autometer gauge that i have permanently installed reads 8-9 psi max boost and a solid 20 hg vacuum at idle. when i test it with a vacuum gauge diagnostic tool i got from auto store that also reads up to 15psi boost, my vac shows a solid 17hg and boost max is like 10-11. . and thats when i test them both on the same line at diff times.. so what do i believe?

diganostic tool? i thoguht those were electrical.

i think he's talking about just the vacuum gauges that are really acurate and help target leaks

Ok well do both gauge needles sit right at 0 when the car is off? How do you have them both hooked up? I would send your Autometer off to Autometer and have them recalibrate it!

ya . they both sit at 0 when off. exactly . but its kinda odd. i dunno. they were both hooked to the same source when i tried this. the only diff is the auto store gauge has a wider opening for the vac hose to fit on to . the autometer has just a small pinhole looking opening..

If the car still runs good.... don't worry about, it or at least thats what I would do.

problem being, our motor is supposed to blow up running much more then 8psi of boost

Tee them together and run them at the same time. That is the only good way to compare. If you are uncomfortable with the difference, call Autometer. They are very good about warranty work. When you read a gauge, you should be confident in its output. Doubt never makes a good passenger.
