88354, how much air does SMIC need?
Posted by 97grnRS, Jul-30-05 11:40 AM
just wondering. my greddy side mount is mounted behind that little moon shape in our front bumpers . but i dont think it gets enough air there. only half of it is in the direct path of flowing air and also the piping wraps around the front of it too so that blocks some air to it. i was just wondering if this is ok or my other solution was to hack away some of the bumper above the moon shape to let it breath better. what do u all think? necessary or not ? i dont care about looks since my car already has basically a drag style look from everything else ive done to the front and back. ( not in pics yet)

I don't see what the problem is unless you're overheating. Does it get heatsoaked fast or what?

car not over heating at all but what do u mean by heat soaked? i just want maximum efficiency from it and i dunno if im getting it from only like half of it gettin direct air.

If the ic outlet is warm, it's getting heat soaked. The easy way to see if it's doing anything is to compare the end tank temps.

I'm sure you're getting plenty of air flow for your boost requirements. After all mitsubushi engineers designed that opening for the stock tiny smic on turbo models for running 14 psi or whatever the hell they run.

i guess. the only thing is how my piping wraps around the front right in front of that little hole in the bumper. taking up alot or space.

air is lazy. it'll find a way in there though.

Go do 2 good pulls full boost and get out and touch the IC. if it's hot it's heatsoaked. :P

The silvia heatsoaks after 2 good 12psi runs on the track. time for a FMIC> :)

ive taken care of it as u can see by my sig pic. dont look the prettiest but then again neither does my side pipe or my hood scoop so i dont care. i just cut out a square and made a duct out of aluminum flashing. my piping still feels hot but 95+ degree weather i guess will do that
