88224, Any success stories with XS Power or SSAutochrome? Posted by Hamgumball, Jul-26-05 11:59 AM
I bought a turbo off ebay, thinking i was getting a deal. It came in yesterday, and when I pulled it out the box it had XS Power stamped on the compressor housing..."XXXX" i said to myself. I didnt say anything about it being from XS power, you cant even tell from the picture.
So I'm hoping for good news from people who are running their turbos, or bad news from those who have them. Please reply from experience, not I heard from this one kid...

Heard of the rubber cement that holds them together failing. Might want to reinforce that with some jb weld you'll be good to go.
in all honesty though if you cant return it i would try it and see what happens. if it fails or fails, email ss autochrome and see if they back up a product they put out.

They don't back up products they put out. the turbo will explode.
Sell it to someone, quickly!

SSautochrome.
hmm. i have one and its a solid turbo. There are stories a few years back about the compressor housing falling off, which are 100% true. However if you continue reading the kid that this happens to gets a new turbo with no questions asked and he has boosted like 15k since than with no problem. They are under new management now and fully back there products. Obviously you get what you pay for but they work fine I have a t3/t4 unused at the moment and my friend w/ a corrado g60 has been boosting with the same turbo from SS for 1k no problem.
BTW more research and some of the turbo internals are garret products atleast mine is.

Their turbos are dumb. The wastegates and BOVs aren't bad, though.
Have fun with your exploding potato (AKA SS Autocrap Turbo).

SSAutoChrome is shit. I ordered a turbo exhaust manifold from them for a rediculous price and it doesn't even close to fitting with the turbo attached. I believe it will fit a 4g63 though, anyone know if 420a's and 4g63's have the same bolt pattern for exhaust manifold bolts?

ya don't worry about it when your O2 compressor housing falls apart because it was jb welded or rubbercemtented together. I mean those two ways of sealing a turbo are found to be the best. Hell you don't need a turbo that is welded to work properly...
I really cannot believe a company would actually sell a product to a consumer with that knowledge in mind. I mean who the fuck superglues/ rubber cements a damn turbo together??? If it's a stationary product that doesn't do a direct function then it's ok. Like a header on a n/a car.. fine it doesn't do anything as long as fits. I would send the shit back!

Are you kidding me? All this time I thought you guys talking about superglueing turbos is a joke. You mean they really do that?

yes they did a few years back. Post up a pic of your turbo so I can see which one you have. I have the .57 trim and as I said before its solid.

Yeah your good thats what I have. My o2 is like polished though LOL. But yeah my friend did a turbo conversion on a corrado g60 and boosts with the same internals as well as his friend with a prelude turbo.
