I was flipping through i think it was a TURBo mag. well they were workin on a 300zx, they were making the ic pipes out of 2.75 inch stailess, but what was bothering me was they were not bending the pipe at all, what they were doin was cutting the strait pipe at angles and welding it together to make bends and such, wtf??? how would this flow well if the pipe isnt smooth flowing??

It doesn't flow well. That's pretty ghetto shit to make into a magazine. If he couldn't afford mandrel bends in stainless he shouldn't of bought stainless straights.

uhmm I see "weld bent" pipes all the time. they flow quite well, better then crush bent, and cost a lot less then mandrel bends, and you can make them bend whatever way you want in any radius or even compound curve, so in theory if the situation calls for it, it is better to do it this way then cut up a bunch of mandrel U-bends.

If your mandrel bend isn't tight enough you can tighten it up by putting a non-collinear cut on it, but only then should you do this.

Something that is press bent will flow better than something that has sharp edges...

JDM manufacturers and shops do this all the time. The piping flows very well and is much cheaper than having to buy a mandrel pipe bender.
