i see alot of ppl using these velocity stacks instead of air filters on their turbos.. how is this safe ? doesnt junk get sucked into there? also how much better performance would one of these be over a filter?

My friends FD3S runs a velocity stack on the t71....but yea.

It runs 10's and puts down 650 whp soooo uhhh....yea

Do it if your turbo (and engine) isn't important to you.

Find a way to run a velocity stack inside a filter. I have seen it done, before. The velocity stack would help, even with a nice cone filter, which shouldn't have much in the way of partial pressure inside of it, even at full vacuum. It would, at the very least, sound cool.

poke around and you could actually find velocity stacks made for muscle cars that have filters built into the stack, giving the same visual of a velocity stack (ie. completely badass) with a better margin of safety.

See RX-8 Racing Beat Intake. See also 1g 4g63 Magnus Motorsports intake manifold. It has built in velocity stacks in the manifold (super cool).

A properly tuned length velocity stack is good. Running without a filter with or without velocity stack is bad.

My dumbass friend decided it was alright to run an Integra without a filter on the Greddy turbo, and was accidently caught driving by some new home developments. Needless to say the dirt and dust kicked up by the machinery was ingested by the turbo resulting in bent blades, and god know whatelse in the engine.

Do yourself a favor and run a filter if daily driven. Those guys running filterless probably have excellent sponsors that are willing to foot the bill for a tear down after runs.

The HKS filters have a sorta velocity stack inside them. I have one, it works great.
