ok... this sucks! after a good 30 minute highway run, my car just wants to overheat when i do my cool down before i shut the car off. so far, i have replaced my ac fan with a slim one, rewired to turn on all the time, new rad, a flush and fill with water and water wetter. driving will be fine. temps seem to be fairly average but as soon as i let it idle, my temp gauge will go 3/4's the way up... not any higher...

any suggestions? going to try a new thermo soon...

YUp, you won't overheat when cruising cause you are getting enough ait to cool down, but at idle you are not getting any. I had the same thing and it was a badly installed head gasket. My coolant overflow tank filled with boiling coolant and at idle I would spew a shitload of coolant on the floor. Do a leakdown test to confirm this.

I would try a new thermostat or just take your thermostat out since it is summer...

yeah, check your thermostat, I had the same problem, and it turned out to be a shattered thermostat, but don't take out the thermostat just get a cooler one like a 160* or 180*, because running cold isn't any better.

im going to try a colder thermo and a new cap. i dont suspect my hg. i dont see anything boiling in the overflow and my oil isnt milky yet!. i also wanted to ask, i ve seen on a few setups, that orange sleeve that goes over the upper rad hose, does that come with the hahn kit? anyone know where i can get a sleeve like that?

yeah, that orange sleeve comes with the HRC kit, i'm sure you can just call them up and order one directly from them or just use heat wrap :shrug

Make sure that your cooling system is burped completely. I had this problem on the POS, and it was because of a huge air bubble that liked to live in the heater core. I heard it for a good two weeks before I could be arsed to do anything about it.

i had this saved from some other post b/c the same thing happens to me, can't vouch for it, cause i havent' gotten around to doing it yet, but i ruled out hg and i've got a new thermostat so this is the next thing i'm trying

This started to get really bad and the temp climbed to 3/4 on the gauge. So anyways, many people said that its a headgasket problem. I sat there and . The car runs great for 96k miles on it so I thought how could that be. I realized that I NEVER hear the fans come on. The relays checked out so next on the shit list was the coolant temp sensor. It cost me $25 at kragen. I put that sob in there ran the car around the block a few times and then let it idle in the drive way. The temp guage stayed in the middle and I heard the fan come on. I did this for 30 mins or so and I heard the fan come on a couple of more times. The car did not overheat AT ALL. So if your car has the symptoms stated in the title, you migggggght be a redneck i mean you might wanna replace your coolant temp sensor ."

lol... thats funny! i know my fans turn on! i check under the hood almost everyday after my drive to work! i even rewired the damn fans to turn on with the key in the on position. the flush did help it a bit. my temps stay below middle while driving.

on a side note, i havent been able to work on my car lately. its in the shop, receiving a new custom ss tube manifold! maybe this will help my "full boost @ 4700rpm" problem!

Well then...that's a good point, i think mine do too which means my cars just gonna continue to piss me off until i figure out why its overheating, maybe a flush...out of curiosity where exactly did you wire the fans to to turn on when the key is in the on position

Concept Illusions sells obx upper and lower radd hoses for 65 bucks. Their the high temp silicone stuff. No need for that orange thing.
