87494, HAHN Stage 1 Downpipe Question
Posted by csmakio, Jun-30-05 05:21 AM
Sorry to make another post but I am pretty sure this is gonna be one of the last haha. Ive searched around alot and couldnt find a straight response. Ive been reading through the HAHN instructions for the install of my Stage 1.

When it gets to the point about taking of and replacing the stock downpipe it says that you ened to cut it 2 1/2'' above a certain point and then put it back on with the other half of the HAHN Down pipe that comes with the kit.

How do you connect the two downpipes? Is it a weld job or is there some sort of clamp I use. The instructions really didnt specify it that much, EVERYTHING I have read about the install doesnt seem like it will be a problem at all until I got to this point.

Could any of you just quickly specify what needs to be done and how you connect the two downpipes.

Greatly appreciate any help once again you guys.

Thank you
Nick

If you baught a kit from hahn and have a question about the install call hahn and ask them. Call their tech line and ask them what the f that means and they will be able to give you a quick and clear answer.

It will all become clear once you get the parts laying in front of you.
These questions have been asked, and have been answered before. I remember reading them when I was installing my kit years ago.

EDIT: holy shit. You've been here for a while. I got all confused by the Neuwbie questions...

Newbie questions...wow thanks dude. Sorry I just wana make sure I know exactly what Im doing befor I do my install this weekend. I read the entire instructions and ONE PART. ONE part about the downpipe threw me for a loop and I ask a simple question and you gotta bash on me?

I was looking for a picture yesterday to show my friend how its going to look because I couldnt find one (my bad I didnt search well enough) and then posted this because I couldnt find an anwsewer.

Sorry if it bugs you so much to anwsewer some questions once in a while again.

you cut it above the bracket that bolts to the block to support it, and then the hahn downpipe will slide into that, or it will slide into the hahn one i don't remember, but anyways they provide a U-clamp that should hold it pretty well

honestly dude, just go to a muffler shop or something, and have them weld an extension piece to your hahn dp, because that stupid clamp that holds both pieces together is just ghetto, plus if not clamped on right, you could have a leak. thats what i did.

I wouldnt even waste my time with that. Buy a new dp from ETX.

Yeah you pretty much hack up a portion of the bottom of the stock dp to let it mate with the hahn dp. And yes, there clamp solution SUCK! If you are strapped for cash and can't buy a full dp, then you can just take the hahn and stock dp, and get it welded.

Well Im gonna buy a full replacement dp eventually but I am very strapped for cash right now. Do you think the clamp method will be alright for a couple weeks till I get a whole new dp?

it will definately work, a lot of aftermarket exhaust systems use U-clamps, just make sure you tighten it well, it shouldn't have any leaks, good luck

The Hahn DP is the worst part of that kit....its junk. basically reusing the factory DP(unless its changed from how it used to be). just have a muffler shop make you a 3" DP, flange, and flex section. it will be WEL worth the cost.
